Clarification of THE PHANTOM new’s LEGACY

As expected, THE PHANTOM: LEGACY (note the : which is now part of the confirmed title) will not be a sequel to a 1996 flop that very few remember.

Instead it will be a franchise reboot ala THE INCREDIBLE HULK and BATMAN BEGINS. The first masked superhero is coming back to the screens…

First of all, I’ve got to say – this is a very exciting time. Being able to bring the first masked comic superhero back to the big screen is an absolute honor. I’ve been researching The Phantom intensely for the last year or so and I’ve been working with the support of King Features Syndicate to try and bring you the tightest possible film. Yes, this is a new look at the comic book hero, but rest assured – He wont be ‘heavily gadget man’ (as that is another comic book hero named Batman) and he wont be an ‘angry mob killer’ (as ‘The Punisher’ -Frank Castle has been made into a film 3 times – remember the Dolph Lundgren film – that too was shot in Australia… old skool). He will be, without doubt ‘The Phantom’. A man who has sworn an oath to protect – but at what cost?

Ithink this is great, to make it a reboot is perfect. A whole new story line and maybe new direction sounds good. They need to maka sure they find the right actor for the role and they could make a couple. there are a lot of good characters out there that they have already tried this with and they flopped such as daredevil also. I think if done right the daredevil series could do just as well as the batman series. it is as dark and gritty as batman. same to be said for phantom its just not as dark.

Will all the reboots in the offing how about another call for THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN.

Well, recession and inflation nothwithstanding, THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN would probably be more apt.

I loved that show as a kid and in the right hands it could make a brilliant piece of entertainment. Could go dark ROBOCOP style or dramatic chase style MISSION IMPOSSIBLE like! Just NOT Jim Carrey comedic style which I believe was in development several years ago!

Maybe the recent BIONIC WOMAN TV series has put executives off but I reckon it would be a box office winner!
