The Justice League of America movie is happening, people. That sucker is moving like a freight train and not even Bryan Singer can stop it! Some fanboys are bound to be up in arms over this, but frankly I’m excited, purely because Superman Returns wasn’t the Superman movie I was hoping for. A George Miller helmed JLA film could potentially deliver some edge-of-your-seat comic book action but with some substance to back up the flash.
Ryan Reynolds seemingly wants in on the action but according to IESB, who’ve been junketing 3:10 to Yuma, Christian Bale looks almost certain to drop out. How’s this for unenthusiastic:
IESB: Are you doing Justice League after TDK?
Bale: No
IESB: Have you been approached for Justice League?
Bale: No
IESB: How would you feel about the studio recasting Batman for Justice League?
Bale: It’d be better if it doesn’t tread on the toes of what we’re doing, though I feel that it would be better if it comes out after Batman 3.
Bale is an excellent Batman, but if the rumours surrounding this turn out to be true, then this version of Batman is younger than the one Bale plays and wouldn’t really mesh with the world Christopher Nolan has created. It’s looking likely that both Batman and Superman will get recast for this picture which will allow Warners to establish a fresh film continuity from which they hope Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern will shoot off into their own franchises. If anyone thinks two different Bat/Supermen is a bad idea then it’s worth noting their are currently two actors playing Superman if you include Smallville and back in 1983 there were two James Bonds.
So who would you pick to play the World’s Finest? Given that the studio seem to want younger actors, I’d go with Ryan Gosling as Batman and previous Superman runner-up Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. What are your suggestions?

I for one am glad Christian’s Bale’d out!(Ger’it,Bale’d out!)He’s far too intense for a Justice League picture. What we need is a completely new Bats in fact Someone in the vain of Adam West would be appropriate for this film. Actually why not Adam west? It’s gonna need some campy actors and shit for this movie…cause they will look ridiculous! infact while they’re at it bring back Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, Let’s face it she still looks pretty HOT for a MILF of her age (Shwinggg!!)As for Superman, they’ve got to ditch Routh he’s got about as much charisma as a fucking shitty plank of wood……Thats me done, now flip me over.
No Justice League its going to be Crap. I can understand Bale not wantin to be part of it. I would prefer if Batman was not part of it. The only decent DC heros are Batman and Superman, I could not care less about The Flash, Hawkman etc. Warners should just let Mr Nolan do what he does best which will hopefully be two great Batman movies.
Huh? Younger? What rumors are these? Christian Bale portrays a ROOKIE Batman– he’s been in the suit for like a month in movie continuity. How can he be any younger than that?
And it would make zero sense for WB to have so many different continuities in film. Let me see if I understand this: you think they could have a Batman continuity, a Superman continuity, a Justice League continuity that has its own Superman and Batman, and then spin-off movies with Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash based in that continuity.
That doesn’t sound a little convoluted to you? You really think people will be cool with having one Batman one summer, then another the next?
I’m sorry, but I really doubt that will happen. Smallville is different because it’s such a different story– in fact, the producers aren’t even alowed to use the terms Superman or Superboy on the show because of these concerns. And that Bond example you cite isn’t exactly a positive example of this kind of thing working.
I get that IESB is banging the drum on this, and they’re a great source, but this is getting seriously hard to believe…
DC is starting a universe with Superman and Batman, from there will be branched more-so. If they make Batman any younger, what the hell are they going to do? Justice League Teens! Where everyone is emo! It’s on par with watching MTV these days, just a big /emo fit. Maybe we can get Peter Jackson to direct it, he does a pretty solid emotional changing of characters.
On a serious note – he’s not unethusiastic about it. He’s just saying “Hey, if they want to do JLA, it needs to be done after Batman3 since that is what is setting our side of Gotham up.” He also said no one talked to him about it yet they didn’t ask if he was interested in playing the part (dumb move on that reporters part).
“Bale: It’d be better if it doesn’t tread on the toes of what we’re doing, though I feel that it would be better if it comes out after Batman 3.”
Geez, what a whiny little BITCH! Would you like some cheese with youe whine Christian? The Batman character is in good hands with Nolan, but what sane person would turn down the chance to expand the franchise and break new cinematic ground by having two iconic superheores on the screen together? I sure as hell wouldn’t.
And as I’ve told Matt time and again -Batman’s too important and lucrative for WB to be held hostage to Nolan’s timetable. If Chris Nolan and Christian “Whine like a Bitch!” Bale are so interested in nobody “treading on the toes of what we’re doing” then I suggest he and Noaln do Batman 2-3 back-to-back like the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions.
Otherwise he should STFU, get ready to see somebody who doesn’t have a speech-impediment (I think he’s got a fake set of teeth, that’s why he talks so funny) put on the cape and cowl, and see what could well be a kick-ass flick. I’m behind the JLA flick all the way -complainers be damned!
JaySmack, it’s your type of opinion that lead to Batman & Robin. Your jonesing for a a JLA movie just to get your rocks off to Batman and Superman on the screen at the same time? I bet you couldn’t believe you got to see Batman, Batgirl, and Robin on screen all at the same time, the joy!!
Do you really think the studio cares at all about breaking cinematic ground here? Please, this is the ultimate action figure movie for them, and you can tell because of the rushed production and less than relevant hired director for a film of such epic scope.
In case you missed the memo Lucious Fox style, Batman Begins was a major achievment for the comic film genre, a movie that took the source serious. Nolan made a great film, and it took methodical planning and complete commitment. I’m guessing there are a lot more fans who prefer Bale’s Batman get his fair share in the timelight. I mean the sequel is called Dark Knight for christs sake, how in the hell did Nolan pull that off in the world of Spider-Man 2 and 3.
Why you bite the hand that feeds you in Nolan’s commitment to one of the greatest comic creations of all time is beyond me.
JaySmack, as usual, makes a strong argument for why parents should monitor their kids’ internet usage more closely.
The fact is that Norton’s hyper-realistic version of Batman will have a very tough time being compatible with guys flying around wearing magic rings or breathing underwater. Hell, they have a hard enough time making it work in the comics.
And I agree with Despacio. Yes, it would be cool to see these heroes on screen together– IF ITS A GOOD MOVIE. I haven’t read this script, and know very little about it except that Warner Bros. likes it. Well great, but I don’t always share their feelings when it comes to movies.
If Christian Bale and Brandon Routh aren’t in this film, its credibility will certainly be diminished in my eyes. And the odds of all these franchises staying in good health when they basically compete with each other (Who’s the better Batman? would be a constant question that would distract from all films involved) seem pretty small to me.
And yeah, this is EXACTLY how Batman got screwed the first time. The studio just kept piling in characters with little thought given to the actual movie. IF you just said “The new Batman has Robin, Batgirl, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, AND Bane,” you’re first thought would be “Wow, this is gonna be so cool.” So just having the characters doesn’t mean jack. It’s about the actors and the story. And I’m sorry, but Christian Bale is a flat out amazing Batman, and I can’t imagine any A-list actor wanting to try to match it in the much tougher environment of an ensemble team movie. What agent in their right mind would recommend that?
So it would be some C-lister who loves the exposure. And audiences will reject that.
If the movie is good enough, great– I hope it is, I sincerely do. But get the folks you need on board- don’t try to cheapskate your way through it. If the script is so amazing, spend the money to do the movie right.
Maybe WB should’ve planned for this the way Marvel did with Avengers. Cause right now, this looks to me like a pre-strike rush job that’s about chasing the dollar. And I think it will backfire by harming all three franchises, leaving WB right back where they started.
Despacio-
I hated Batman & Robin, and you’re late on the boat. Blade was the first comci book movie to take the material seriously. If you paid more attention to movies in general you’d know that. Learn your facts first, then attempt to lecture. The JLA movie hasn’t even started casting yet and already I’m supposed to believe that it’s going to suck? It’s opinions like your that help studios justify to themselves not making movies like Wonder Woman, Flash etc.
Scramble Network– Nice to see they let you out of the playpen long enough to type some gibbereish on a message board. I love it that this kid who thinks Superman Returns was an awesome movie wants to give us his opinoon on anything. It’s past your bedtime SN.
So, do us all a favor: turn off the monitor (the same way you long ago turned off what passes for a brain in your otherwise empty head) put down the mouse, and back slowly away from the keyboard.
JaySmack…I have to disagree with you, I am a huge fan of Christian Bale, who is a very subtle and intelligent man and so I can understand why Bale wants this ‘Justice League’-movie to be made after they finished the third Batman movie. Nolan has made a totally new Batman, he almost created a new character and he (and Bale) fear that this movie might interfere with their own version of Batman, Gotham City, etc
I wouldn’t call ‘Justice League’ cinematic ground, rather typically Hollywood money-making-machine.
And I don’t think that he actually has a fake set of teeth because he doesn’t seem to be the type of man who is vain!
