Chris Nolan’s next movie at Warner Bros. is…

… an original sci-fi thriller he wrote titled INCEPTION, which he be produced by his wife and THE DARK KNIGHT producer Emma Thomas. The story broke in tonight’s The Hollywood Reporter.

INCEPTION is described as “a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.”

I’m not quite sure what the hell that means but it sounds absolutely fantastic and I can’t tell you how delighted I am to see Nolan join the number of high profile directors tackling sci-fi right now, a genre in great need of a boost.

INCEPTION will shoot this Summer and all being well should hit theatres mid-2010. This will be one of Warner Bros. biggest movies of next year as they currently have no comic book movie set for release (everyone doubts a proposed GREEN LANTERN could be ready in time).

As expected, Nolan doesn’t wanna be seen as just the BATMAN guy and is once again helming a movie in between two Warner Bros. smash hits. It mirrors what he did with his smaller, more personal project THE PRESTIGE which began casting almost immediately after BATMAN BEGINS hit cinemas.

Though INCEPTION sure doesn’t sound like just a small flick.

You all know I’m the biggest Batman fan around but I’m delighted to hear he won’t direct BATMAN 3 next. For Nolan to grow into the mindset he was in for THE DARK KNIGHT, he needs to fill his personal appetite to tell other stories.

I’m positive he will make BATMAN 3 for a 2011 or 2012 release. But be happy in the knowledge we get to see him blow our minds with something original before then.

Well, once he’s done Bats 3 he can move on and just forget about them and do what ever else he wants….with Christian Bale.

Nolan’s an extraordinary storyteller. He and his brother are certified dynamite together, as proven by Momento (screw anyone who didn’t “Get it,” that movie was brilliant!).
He realizes in order to keep the batteries charged he has to do other things. And why not?
Life’s short. Use it up.

Batman is great and all but they should really stop while they’re ahead. I hope that Nolan and Bale just simply move on to other projects rather than tackle another Batman movie in the near future.
