Only Christopher Nolan could keep the plot for a $180-200 million Warner Bros. summer blockbuster a secret but he has done an admirable job so far and even though I’m desperate to know what “the architecture of the mind” is all about, the truth is the less I know come next July, the better the experience for me.
Of course when a picture cost as much as to make as this one has, simply putting up the tag “from the director of The Dark Knight” and slapping Leonardo DiCaprio’s picture on the poster isn’t going to be enough, so Warners will no doubt make sure every man, woman and child is bombarded with knowing just exactly what the movie is about when 2010 rolls around.
Here’s The Matrix esque, really dark and threatening trailer (loved the shot he has re-tooled from The Dark Knight, a shaky cam shot whilst a guy is being dragged away) which is such a tease. I think it’s scored to a remix of the Joker theme…

I was a Nolan devotee after Momento. A lot of people may not have “gotten it” (how is that possible? The movie was smart but still striaght-forward, or rather backward) but I did and loved it.
Same with The Prestige. Nolan knows how to tell a damned good story. Even if he could have stood to trim a few minutes off TDK.
The trailer looks strange, but at the end of it it achieved the one thing that every teaser trailer has to do. It made me remember the name, and want to know more about it. Full trailer anyone?

The Prestige was an amazing film wasn’t it? The cinematography was remarkable. I am hoping Inception is a return to form for Nolan. Although TDK was a great film, it lacked something we all have come to love Nolan for. It was not as tightly wrapped, as Jay said, as his other works. We will see if Nolan can hit a homerun again.
Nolan is probaly the leading filmmaker on the world stage today. He has surpassed directors like Tarantino, Singer, Spielberg , De Palma and Scorsese. MEMENTO was a stunning low-budget brain-twister. INSOMNIA is probaly his most straightforward film to date with stunning cinematography of daylight Alaska. Nolan has made the 2 great comic-book movies to date. BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT are the Godfather of comic-book movies. His best film to date would have to be THE PRESTIGE. THE PRESTIGE is another mindbending movie that is told with the highest skill of a filmmaking magician. INCEPTION seems like it will surpass the cult status of films like the first MATRIX and MINORITY REPORT. INCEPTION should take this genre to a new level of craftsmanship. At this stage Nolan is on a level of filmmaking all to himself.
