Marvel’s movie turn around is so much smoother than the one at DC. Over the last couple of years DC have been struggling to get Wonder Women, The Flash and The Green Arrow features made whilst Marvel keep chugging out their X-Men’s, FF’s, Spider-Man’s etc.
Next year alone they are hoping to have Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Wolverine and The Punisher 2 out.
Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige talks all things Marvel to Coming Soon, and he kindly lets us in on the knowledge that Captain America could be the next big Marvel character put into production…
“I have a writer on ‘Captain America’ right now, hoping to get a director on that very soon to get that into the pipeline within the next year. Same thing with ‘Thor,’” said Feige. “Mark Protosevich has delivered a ‘Thor’ script, David Self is writing ‘Captain America.’”
“We’ll have to play with Captain America as being a patriotic propoganda machine on one hand but also being a very human Steve Rogers interesting fascinating hero in his own right.” Is the script they’re developing a period piece? “Right now what we’re developing would be about half and half.”
A Captain America movie is very tricky indeed. I mean after all you have to remember that when the character originated in the comics, he was an obvious propaganda machine. He fought off Nazi’s and the like, and he has mostly being kept as such a figure all the way to the present day.
I’m not sure you can do a Captain America movie without carrying some kind of political message. I would expect this to be Marvel’s big new movie in 2009.

One Comment
David Self wrote the screenplay to another comic-book adapted work, Road To Perdition and that was damned good, due in no small part to the director.
hell, if I were going to choose a writer to do a period-piece about a comic book Self’s name would be up there.
