Ok, so once Tim Burton has completed work on his ALICE IN WONDERLAND, he will be begin working on his feature-length adaptation of his own 1984 short film FRANKENWEENIE. This will be his second Disney film in a row after returning to the studio for the first time in many years.
This is a story that was rumored back in October.
The movie will be stop-motion animated but awesomely will be screened in digital 3-D.
FRANKENWEENIE if you couldn’t tell is Burton’s homage to the classic FRANKENSTEIN story, but this time it revolves around a dog who is brought back to life by his owner.
The short film lasts for 29 minutes and along with his short VINCENT film, showed the talents that would propel Tim Burton into one of the biggest Hollywood directors of the last two decades. Both films can be seen on the extra’s of the DVD for A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and are worth the price of the product alone.
I love FRANKENWEENIE and the idea of a longer version from Burton who now has unlimited resources to make whatever he wants is just to awesome to not get excited over. Sadly once SWEENEY TODD has wrapped, we won’t see another live-action Burton movie for a while… but his two Disney projects COULD be great.
