Tim Burton’s next film will be a 3-D animated film for Walt Disney, the first time he was worked with the studio since his stint with them in the 90’s where he made A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and ED WOOD.
His next film will be an adaptation of Lewis Caroll’s classic tale ALICE IN WONDERLAND which will use the same motion-capture technique that can currently be seen in BEOWULF, matched with live-action footage.
Burton will begin work on the movie early next year, with production expected to be completed by May, though it took at least two years for BEOWULF to be completed, so there will probably be a lengthy post-production period on this one.
According to WIKI, there have been at least 12 big screen adaptations of ALICE IN WONDERLAND. The most famous easily been the 1951 animated version from Walt Disney, which popularized the character of Alice and her tale down the rabbit hole.
Linda Woolverton has wrote the script. She previously wrote the screenplays to THE LION KING and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, so she clearly has some pedigree.
Burton adapting Lewis Caroll?
Well of course I’m interested. Tim Burton was my favourite director of the 90’s but sadly since the turn of the Millenium I’ve seen him disappoint me with adapting some things I hold dear to me. PLANET OF THE APES, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and please hope I’m wrong… SWEENEY TODD.
If Burton gets to let rip in this world then this could be amazing though the idea of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter? Not for me… though it’s bound to happen.
Let’s hope this doesn’t resurrect the idea of Disney looking into their archives and making deals to remake all their classics like SNOW WHITE, PINOCCHIO, SLEEPING BEAUTY and PETER PAN etc, into 3-D animated movies.
One is fine, and let’s hope Burton brings his A-Game to this.

This article starts out incorrectly by saying:
“Tim Burton’s next film will be a 2-D animated film for Walt Disney”
It will be 3D animation using motion capture.
I think Johnny Depp will either be The White Rabbit, or The Cheshire Cat, due to their recurring appearances throughout the film. If Burton had his way, Depp would play Alice.
lol. justin, you’re probably right.
anyways, whats this obsession with 3D motion capture movie? Knowing Tim Burton’s ridiculous fascination with death and the macabre, he’ll probably make everything extremely disturbing. also I really don’t see the need for making a 13th adaptation of Alice in Wonderland…
lol if tim burton really had his way, we could all expect johnny depp playing every single character. and naturally Tim Burton would defend this with “its creative, right.” Hopefully that’s just a ridiculous idea of mine that’ll never be considered for use. I’m just saying that’s an idea so wacky i’m sure crosses his mind from time to time.
he is going to be the madhatter i hear, so but it could be a rumor. so i guess we have to wait and see what happens…you never know. DUH its johnny depp and tim burton… lol!
