Bryan Singer is contractually committed to film Superman next

Whether he likes it or not (and presumably he does otherwise he wouldn’t have signed up for the sequel) director Bryan Singer will begin production on the Superman: The Man of Steel early next year for a release in the summer of 2009.That’s according to a source for IESB who said the following…

“That’s total horse shit, I would say the same thing if I was producing that film but don’t you realize that most of the Superman producers are working with Bryan on Valkyrie? Gil Adler and Chris Lee both are in Germany with Bryan and I can guarantee you that there is some work being done with Superman right now…

…Bryan’s deal with Warner Bros. for the Superman sequel is already done and signed and that’s the priority,”

Shame really as I fear Singer is wasting his time with another Superman movie although I do remember a while ago when he said he wanted to go “Wrath of Khan-like” on the Superman Returns sequel.

Sounds good to me. A more adult Superman follow-up is badly needed and please, can we get a villain that isn’t Lex Luthor this time? Please? I’m begging ya.

I’m sick to death of seeing a Superman vs. Lex Luthor movie. They never go anywhere and it’s rare you see that bald headed dude as being a real threat to Supes or our planet.

I fully agree that Luthor is SO played out. And they always go silly with him wheneevr they put him on. I mean, sheesh, the ONLY thing Luthor has is kryptonite. Genius that he is and that’s the BEST he can think of? At least with Mario Puzo’s script they had Luthor use a dual-missile ploy, THAT was smart! What does Singer do? A kryptonite knife? Dumbass.

They should have stuck with the idea they’d been kicking around for years: Brainac as the villain. If not him, then find someone else, but PLEASE no more Luthor!

The problem with Singer is..I dont think his heart is in it.I dont care what anyone says, SUPERMAN RETURNS stunk big time! It reeked of a director who got bogged down with all the franchise crap that a director does when making this type of film.(Not to mention his homage to the original film..Why?)
The problem that we keep coming back to with the comicbook genre films is a good/ bad script! I mean look at the recent output of films that marvel have slung out for christ sake! GHOST RIDER had no story to speak of (utter nonsense)..Spider-man 3 had too much story and was completely ruined from producers dabbleing and putting there two cence in and messing a good thing up (And god knows Sam Rami is the only one who really seems to have a handle on these films!) and of course we come to the latest one, Fantastic Four 2 which I have’nt seen but all the reviews have put me off that one, by all acounts another stinker,it all comes back to the right man for the job and a good script. If hollywood is not careful they are going to destroy the comicbook genre completely.
Singer should stay well away from Superman and do what he does best.
I for one am not looking forward to another Superman film with him at the helm, I certainly dont want to see his homage to WRATH OF KHAN, I mean dose’nt anyone have an original idea anymore!! god know what we’ll end up with when they do a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.

I agree The Glove, his heart is not in it now. The problem with his Superman Returns movie was his heart was in it too much. He didn’t just homage the original film, he fucking remade it.

After how badly the movie turned out, he couldn’t care less about the franchise now as you say. He needs to move on, he had his chance and he blew it but unfortunately it would seem his contract states he has to do it.

I could very well see a remake of Wrath of Khan in the next movie. Will his son bite the dust? I would say that could be a direction they will go in… but they really have to get a villain that is a real threat to Supes or it’s dead already.

I agree, I didn’t really like Singer’s work in Superman Returns nore did I like his role in the X-men sequel (X2). He is not a comic book fan and it shows.
