Because really, Bale’s just a nice guy.
Bruce Franklin, assistant director on TERMINATOR SALVATION tells E Online! that star Christian Bale’s F-word rant against the movie’s DP was just him having “a bad day” and that really Bale is nothing but a “consumate professional”.
I say, nothing professional about calling your co-worker a “fucking amateur” and embarrassing him in front of the whole crew. No excuses and if it puts off directors from wanting to work with him in the future, then I can’t say I blame then.
Here’s Bruce playing damage control…
“If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove…but was the most emotional scene in the movie,” said Franklin. “And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn’t walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed.”
“This was my second movie with Christian and it has always been a good experience with him,” added Franklin, who also worked with the actor on 2000’s Shaft. “He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this but I don’t think it’s fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it’s an art form. “
All I could fathom out is that the scene in question involved Bryce Dallas Howard (Kate Connor) as Bale mentions her during his tirade and is one of the emotional scenes of the film.
Guess we will find out in May just if the “lighting” was good.
Meanwhile, /film carry a new image from the movie, featuring Bale…

So what if it is an art form? No excuse for his tirade. Any other job on this planet, he’d have been shown the door.
He’s an actor, not a brain surgeon. And this is a Terminator film, not Schindler’s fucking List. And he’s Christian Bale, not Al Pacino.
What a massive douchebag, doing the tirade in his crappy little American accent as if he’s some important method actor.
Agree with Roars. I would have botted him off set and replaced him with a more capable and personable actor.
This is Bale. He can pretty much do whatever he wants now. If it were any other actor in a smaller film, they probably would’ve been fired.
Honestly you guys are neither artists nor have you an inkling of the craft. It is a foregone conclusion that you would say such things. I suggest you do your research so that you would comment on an more informed mindset because you are bashing a person who is really serious about their respected craft and profession. Imagine being in his shoes when you are very dedicated to your work. Christian Bales gives it his all every time you see him!…or have you not been paying attention?
Bale is the best actor of is generaion. Brando was difficult to work with. I bet he lost his top a few times…he just lived in an era where every step could not be documented and scrutinized. Duh da da…loololol.
Brilliant point there, CHASE Adams!
Tons of other actors and actresses go berserk and the main difference between the others’ situation and this Christian Bale thing is that somebody was cleverly evil to record the whole Bale freak-out.
But as mentioned, it’s not like Bale’s the only F-bomber in Hollywood. The others just get away, off-the-record.
None of any of these defences excuse his actions behaviour. Other (and better, may I add) actors have lost their cool in the past, so it’s fine for Bale to victimise some newbie on the set?!
As someone who has worked both as an actor and behind the scenes, I can easily say that actors have the easiest job by far. All they need to do is show up on time and deliver their lines. The pressure is on the crew to get things running on schedule and smoothly.
Bale needs to check his fucking ego.
Roman, who made you the fucking expert?
My point is that actors get away with this shit because of the whole ‘Hollywood’ world they inhabit. Star struck cunts like you drool over them and label them ‘legends’. But they are just actors man. I couldn’t give a shit if he gives his left arm for his craft.
And you know, it’s not uncommon for actors to get kicked off set, if only for the day so as to remind them they don’t run the show.
If Bale continues to go unchecked, he’ll get worse on future productions. I wouldn’t to see that happen, because generally speaking I love most of his films.
And the comparison with Brando in that he was less-documented, (due to the technology of the time), is a moot point. Bale lives now, the technology is there for evil little bastards to record him, so he has to deal with it and act accordingly.
Seriously though, as the other guy mentioned above, this ain’t Schindler’s List.
actor or no, its no excuse for humiliating someone. i was surprised that bale didnt get a punch for it
I have to say, ain’t a lick of you have experience with this. In my last film we were filming a pivotal scene in which the actor had to be furious. During the shoot, we had to stop for a mis cue and the actor stayed in character and was upset with the stoppage.
Later after the scene was done and we were wrapping, I talked to him about it as I didn’t want any bad feelings, and he simply said that he put himself fully into the part and created the monster needed and didn’t want to come out. I respect that, even of people in Bales shoes. You create something, it’s not like fixing and engine.
This means nothing and happens with talented, creative people.
It’s a waste to make more of this than there is. But you will. It’s your job. Not sure who the more unprofessional is.
We have to make more out of it than it is. That’s human nature. That’s how newspapers are sold ;)
