There’s been some great Bond secondary villains or ‘henchman’ over the years. Oddjob and Jaws come to mind straight away but then there’s so many more over the course of the 21 movies that truly make the Bond flicks even more fun. How about the mysterious voodoo figure of Baron Samedi from LIVE AND LET DIE?
Sometimes the secondary villains can outshine the real villain of the piece, as was the case in the above mentioned movie.
So, one year on from CASINO ROYALE and we are now in a situation where the majority of the BOND villains for the next movie have come together. We know that Mr. White will return from the first movie (he seems to the be the real ‘big bad’ of the piece) and we got confirmation last week that French actor Mathieu Amalric would be the new ‘Le Chiffre’ figure for the next movie.
And now comes word from Commander Bond that Swiss actor Anatole Taubmann has been cast as the henchman of next year’s feature. The actor made the announcement himself to the Swiss media…
“James Bond - that’s like playing the Champions League. For a European actor, this is like a gold ticket. There’s nothing better. I’m very happy.”
They couldn’t get anymore out of Taubmann but he did mention he had a personal trainer, which would indicate a large amount of physicality for the part.
Taubmann turns 36 in a few short weeks and has been acting for around ten years, though you probably won’t have seen him in much. He was briefly in the great mini series BAND OF BROTHERS and had the esteemed part of ‘cemetery technician’ in EQUILIBRIUM.
But secondary Bond villains are all about their look, their accent and their overall presence. Hopefully this guy will bring all that to the table.

As someone who’s more of a fan of the henchmen and villains in 007 movies, I hope that this guy has a bit about him and adds up as a memorable member of the hoodlum pantheon. The physical training sounds promising - all he needs now is a ridiculous accents and some kind of oddball psychosis. Oh, and an outrageous death sequence…
