I was hoping they weren’t going to use this title for the next James Bond movie but I think most of us have been expecting this announcement for some time. AICN have got the rumored scoop that the Casino Royale follow-up will be called The Property of a Lady which is the same name as a short story found in the Bond novel Octopussy and the Living Daylights and is one of only four original Ian Fleming Bond short stories that have not seen their title used for a film.
The others are…
Riscio
The Hildebrand Rarity
The Quantum of Solace
Out of those, you have to believe that The Hildebrand Rarity will never be used. The Quantum of Solace sounds a bit of a mouthful, so really it was out of Riscio and The Property of a Lady if they wanted to continue using an Ian Fleming title that hasn’t been used before.
The scooper for AICN has more on a possible plot…
Under further inspection, it shows the plot revolves around a female British double-agent also working for the KGB and the attempted auctioning off of a Faberge egg to make the double-agent a little money courtesy of her Russian employers. Of course, Bond must interfere. Now, whether or not this will be the authentic plot of the film, just a disembodied title or nothing at all, only time will tell. It should be taken with a grain of salt.
If it turns out to be true then maybe I will get used to it when it comes closer to the film’s release.
The Property of a Lady to me just sounds so period drama-ish. At least if this is true, we can finally stop calling it Bond 22 now. And I guess when I think about it, the title does sound very new age Bond-ish, if rather dull.

Yeah, The Property of the Lady does have a period drama edge to it, but I think I like it. Sophisticated with a touch of high class and a shade of danger: that’s 007 all over.
As for the others: Riscio is an intriguing one; The Hildebrand Rarity must be avoided at all costs.

“The Property of a Lady?” Ugh, bore me to death, why don’t you? Why not call it Disposition of the Body, instead? I had so hoped they wo0uld continue on the Bourne-ish course they’d been on, but who knows, maybe the title is just that –a bad title. Though I suppose they could have chosen worse.
The Quantum of Solace sounds like a Michael Crichton sci-fi thriller. Risico? Incomprehensible and meaningless. And The Hildebrand Rarity? Just plain stupid.
