Battle in Seattle, the writing and directing debut of Irish actor Stuart Townsend has been given a September 2008 release in the U.S, exactly 12 months since it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film stars Townsend’s real life partner Charlize Theron - alongside Woody Harrelson, Ray Liotta, Martin Henderson, Michelle Rodriguez, Andre Benjamin, Connie Nielsen and Channing Tatum.
It’s not based on a boxing match as the title would have you believe, instead it’s an in-depth look at the five day riots involving thousands of protesters who took to the streets in protest of the World Trade Organisation in 1999.

The trailer would suggest that at least a third of the film will be a guerrilla type look at the violence from ground zero, almost a documentary style ala United 93 - where it’s not particularly trying to judge anyone it’s just showing us the facts as real as possible.
Could be powerful and of great merit - or could be boring, depending on how well directed and edited it is. Guess we will find out in September.
