It looks like the roles of Batman and Superman will be re-cast for the Justice League of America movie with Brandon Routh and Christian Bale NOT involved in anyway. It’s also expected that this movie will be a stand alone flick, with no continuity and no ties to the current films in the DC/WB canon, so it won’t effect the visions of Christopher Nolan or Bryan Singer.
This is probably because Bale shot them down and Nolan was put off by the idea of this project, so Warners just said screw them, we are going to have five or six of DC’s biggest characters in one movie, we don’t need them.
The characters who are confirmed to be in the movie are…
Batman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, The Green Lantern and Wonder Women. The only character that might suprisingly be missing is The Green Arrow but it would seem that because of David Goyer’s Super Max movie, he doesn’t need to be introduced here.
IESB report that the casting of these roles could start as early as next week. My guess would be you can probably think Smallville in terms of the type of actors they will hire. You know the type I mean. Fresh faced T.V. actors. The kind of people who Star Trek will be casting.
It’s Brandon Routh who seems to have gotten the short straw here. He has expressed his desire in the past to be in this type of movie but with Christian Bale not interested, Warners obviously ditched him so we would think this is a stand alone movie.
Another thing to think about is could Tom Welling make the transition from the small screen to the big screen for this part or then would it end up being just an extended movie episode of Smallville? What about The Joker of Lex Luthor? Are they involved in this movie, who are the villians exactly?
This is seriously one of the boldest moves I have ever seen a movie studio try and attempt. It’s going to be real interesting to see how this develops. This has the potential of being the greatest comic book movie of all time but it of course could easily go wrong, on so many different levels.
George Miller looks to have been confirmed as director with shooting starting early next year.

Well, it seems JLA is moving forward nicely. There have been some immature and just plain ignorant comments about the prospects for this film made, from people who have already shown they don’t even know what a good movie is. And I know there were people who thought Transformers was going to be awesome (some other, less-intelligent people acutally thought Superman Returns was -snicker!- “a great movie!”) and thought Batman Begins would suck, rather than do as I do :monitor the development of each movie and judge it on it’s own merit.
I said when it was first announced that the JLA flick was moving forward, and it is. I said it has a chance of being good, (not a guarantee of quality, but at least a chance) and it does. Besides, I really can’t see anyone doing a much worse job than Singer did with Superman. Let’s see how this movie shapes up first. Then we can judge whether they’re on the wrong track or not. Right now it’s simply too early to tell. Anyone who starts casting stones at this point is just plain stupid. We don’t have enough information to form any sort of babis for a judgment yet. Oh, and for the folks who seem to need to whine as much as Christian Crybaby Bale does, nolan’s not the only guy capapble of making a good superhero movie, you know. Sam Raimi, Bryan Singer (until SR) Stephen Norrington, Guillermo Del Toro also turned in good films. So lets get off this kick that Nolan’s some sort of good who we must give undue deference for. He’s done right by the Batman franchise, but I for one see no reason to wait until his slow ass gets finished with his precious trilogy before the character can be used again.
Right on! Jaysmack, Fuck Nolan and Bale and their serious franchise.
This thing does not have to have any connection to their shit whatsoever.
My only gripe is that I would love to have seen Martian Manhunter and the Red Tornado in this film, if nothing else it would have given them an opportunity to visualise some different effects for said characters.(I just dont think the likes of Aquaman will be a very interesting character in this type of film.)
I rather not see it being made and can only conclude its a money thing. I would prefer no Batman in this because he works best with no sidekicks and not being part of a worldwide superheros agency. No why Batman is so popular? Its because he has no super powers he relys on his smarts and training. Batman Begins in my humble opinion was the best comic book film ever made and The Dark Knight is right at the top of my list of must see films. A justice league film would be right at the bottom.
Thank you for the support Glove. It’s time the Crisitan Crybabies STFU. The movie’s gonna happen, like it or not and clearly there are a few malcontents who think nobody but Nolan can make a good comic nook movie. What morons…
It’s one thing to pass judgment on Transformers once it was clear Michael Bay would be directing, or to wait until it was clear he was going to screw it up, but these folks are just against it on general principle.
“I rather not see it being made and can only conclude its a money thing.”
Wow, you think maybe the studios are a business or something? X-Men showed the world a superhero team based on powers. Justice League has a chance to be far smarter. Will it be easy -of course not! Then again there was nothing easy about what Nolan did with Batman Begins. He had years of Schumaker’s screwups to overcome.
Now, for the last time, for those in the cheap seats -PLEASE will you STFU with the “I don’t want Batman in this story, I don’t wanna see superman in a team-up movie -Whaaaaa-waaaa-waaa!” The film’s a done-deal. It’s going to happen -okay? Let’s monitor the situation and see how it shapes up. The idea is a damned good one. The only thing that could go wrong is if the script is weak, or if it’s improperly handled.
Sorry I’m not going to change my opinion its a poor idea based on greed. Frankly it will be overkill. Mate I’m a huge DC fan particulary Batman and I don’t want him spoilt by greed. Its a valid opinion and if you can’t deal with it tough, why can’t you just accept a differient view without having to resort to crude sarcasm?
ALL YOU NAYSAYERS WILL PAY……NOW KNEEL BEFORE ZOD, KNEEL!!!!!!
Chris–
I don’t like to see ANY movie get attacked until it’s warranted -even a Michael Bay flick. JLA could be a hell of a great movie, but when people already decide to shoot it down that sets a bad precedent. I am not a JLA fan but I like the idea of a Superman/Batman team-up movie, and it would a hell of a great thing to see -IF IT’S DONE RIGHT!
I’m not saying do a JLA movie simlpy for the sake of having done so. But it’s wrong to attack this moving simply because it’s been proposed. My point is simply that admiring the Bale-Nolan Batman is no reason to say the whole Dc Universe should pause until they finish their grand trilogy. Who knows, maybe the guys working on JLA “get” the concept too and have a great story to tell, outside of Nolan-Batman continuity. But we’ll never know if people shoot it down before it even has a chance. Give it a chance first, they might surprise you.
That’s all I’m saying.
