Jett from Batman on Film, easily the most authoritative voice and with the closest contacts to Warner Bros. to know exactly what is going on with the next installment of the Caped Crusader wrote last week that he doesn’t expect to see another live action Batman movie till 2012.
That’s one year later than when we thought the movie could have opened, when we initially pondered it the day after THE DARK KNIGHT was released back in July.

Jett’s reasoning of course being Chris Nolan’s new science fiction movie INCEPTION which we now know is likely to star Leonardo DiCaprio when it begins filming in June. So really just looking at the numbers alone, it doesn’t seem possible to have BATMAN 3 ready for 2011, because that would be two very large productions in a very implausible two year time period.
Just not going to happen. Anyway here’s Jett with an update on his message board…
at this moment based on the timeframe for INCEPTION and what I’ve heard from insiders (Maybe I know people who’ll be working on B3, you know.
), B3 is going to be a Summer 2012 release.
Frankly, the only way it’ll be a 2011 film is if Nolan declines (he hasn’t) and WB hires a new director soon.
Which Warner Bros. won’t do, if Nolan has given the hint that he is likely to stay on for a third Batman movie. As long as Nolan is committed, Warner Bros. will be willing to wait and won’t re-hire.
The only way I can see them replacing Nolan is if he plays the “wait and see” game and WB get itchy trigger fingers and hire a Zack Snyder to get the project into development straight away. But I think Nolan has one more Batman movie in him and WB will be quite happy to wait another year to see it and reap the rewards.
As will we.

Nolan is a great director, and WB should wait for him to take the franchise by the horns again! :)
Agree.
I won’t patronize any third Batman if it ain’t Chris Nolan on the forefront.
Nolan’s a great director. Perfectionist kinda helmer.
I wouldn’t want any Zack Snyder or Snyder-esque director taking over this reinvented franchise.
(Gawd. I’ve seen Watchmen thrice in a row.
As a fan of the orig graphic novel, Snyder’s Watchmen was a bummer).
All that said,
I wouldn’t want a bummer of a Batman sequel.
No frakkin way.
If it ain’t Nolan directing,
I’d rather not anticipate a third movie to follow in the lead of Batman Begins & The Dark Knight.
_N_r_chy, you saw WATCHMEN three times in a row and you’re saying it’s a bummer?
Batman 3 is coming out on July 20th, 2012 Friday, according to the movie websites http://www.boxofficemojo.com’s discussion forums!.
Hey I can wait until then. As long as Bale and Nolan are back. Can’t rush the film or it will end up like Spiderman 3. With that said, Nolan is pretty special. He wants to make this right.
After Dark Knight I thought 2012 would be the next release. Makes sense.
No Batman 3 will not have blown over by 2012! Are you kidding me? 2020 this movie would still be hot.
This is not a long gap between films at all.
I LIKE YOUR ABILITIES WITHOUT SUPERNATURAL POWER . I LIKE TO SEE WITH MORE ANIMATION ON THE NEXT FILM
I completely agree with waiting it out until 2012 for Nolan’s 3rd bat flick. According to IGN and some other fairly dependable sources, Nolan may have signed an additional contract alongside his contract with warner bros to do ‘Inception’ that states that he will complete the trilogy with a third movie for Batman. It makes sense, if it’s true. Nolan, so far, has sucessfully directed 3 warner bros. movies in a row, and has stated he has a very comfortable relationship with them. Now he’s directing a fourth and warner bros hasnt mentioned a thing about “The Next Batman Movie” ? I think it’s fine to wait until 2012. It will give plenty of time for Nolan to flesh out ideas for a script. And as of late, especially since the ridiculous rumor mill started last year after The Dark Knight release, the current % ratio of information regarding Nolan officially signing on to do a third movie is a lot closer to being true than it was. I’d say 75-80% he does. It’s funny. The way I feel about not knowing if he’s going to officially sign on to direct is the same way I felt about Heath Ledger winning the oscar for best supporting actor- I knew he was gonna win, but I didn’t know for sure until it happened. I guess we’ll all find out between now and next year. Fingers crossed!!!
