It’s said that usually the most awkward part of shooting a porno is the dialogue scenes and not the close intimate fucking, which makes sense when you think about it as most porn stars aren’t actors.
But when you have Kevin Smith shooting a porno with Hollywood stars Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen, two actors who can deliver dialogue as well as anybody… well you don’t expect it to be as awkward and uncomfortable as this…
It wasn’t that Smith’s dialogue wasn’t wholly unfunny, it’s just again… and again… and again, it becomes tidious and boring. I could imagine Smith himself saying the lines and it being funny but Rogan just wasn’t working with this was he, and as for Banks… WOW - Over-acting alert.
Such an uncomfortable scene, very reminiscent of their viral marketing spoof “I’m Fucking Seth Rogen”.
These guys have zero chemistry, which is such a shame after the great bond Katherine Heigl and Rogen had in Knocked Up.
Maybe this might have worked if Smith swapped with Rogen - or Heigl swapped with Banks. These two just have nothing going together here.
In short: LOVE the idea for the movie. I LIKE all the talent involved. BUT everything they have shown me so far feels awkward, forced and unfunny. This one opens at the end of October.

I’m a fan of most of Kevin Smith’s stuff but going by this trailer it looks like he might have blown out a stinker!
“well you don’t expect it to be as awkward and uncomfortable as this…”
Why not? Aren’t Rogen and Banks supposed to be amateurs trying to make a porno? Awkward and uncomfortable seems to be what you would expect…
“In short: LOVE the idea for the movie. I LIKE all the talent involved. BUT everything they have shown me so far feels awkward, forced and unfunny.”
Um…EVERYTHING Kevin Smith writes is forced, awkward, and unfunny. The guy goes out of his way to write “shocking” dialogue that will impress his “cool” fans, yet none of it EVER sounds like real dialogue. Kevin Smith is a fat, hairy version of Diablo Cody.
I don’t get Kevin’s choice of material lately either. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, ok, I get it a fun little movie, to ease off of the box office / critical beating Jersey Girl received. Personally, I liked the film but it did not bring to any new fans to KSmith. But then to follow J&B with Clerks2… Clearly a movie which could have waited a few years to be filmed without any major issues, and now Zak and Miri… I love porn as much as the next person and it is more mainstream now then every but to be so up front about it and putting “Porn” in the title, I just don’t know if America is ready for a movie about making a porn flick. I know KS wants to make a Porky’s / American Pie for this generation but how are you going to draw in teenagers into the theater with this title. For that matter, I can hear the conversation on opening weekend already, “Mom, I need $20 bucks because I am taking Sally to see a porno.”
Come on Kevin, please put out something thought provoking like Dogma, C Amy or Clerks1 for your next flick… I re image Daredevil ala what was recently done to the Hulk. Or Fletch your much talked about film with Jason Lee.
