Paramount’s big gamble on showcasing Star Trek around the world a whole month before it’s worldwide theatrical release is in full motion and over the next two weeks, we should start to get a firm idea whether the Kirk-esque tactical manoeuvre is a stroke of cocky genius, or is a rookie error which puts the $150 million picture on red alert.
Last night at the Alamo Drafthouse, audiences were expected to witness a celebration screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as part of Ricardo Montalbahn memorial event. Instead Leonard Nimoy, Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci were in attendance for the first audience showing anywhere of the Star Trek reboot.
/film have chronicled the twitter responses from those who attended the screening. I would keep an eye on the article throughout the day as Peter Sciretta has promised to keep adding more as they come in…
bosmon: holy sh** we just saw world premiere of new #Star Trekand it’s AWESOME
jaireaux: I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The cast is superb, the story is compelling, the action is exciting, and Abrams even avoids any blatant cheesy “winks” about his reboot. If Star Trek is the bluebird of the summer movie season, then we are in for a great ride.
chinesedentist: says OMG I just got back from Star Trek and it was AMAZING. The best Star Trek movie ever. Yes, it even bests Wrath of Khan. Believe me.
wipeout: Any old Stat Trek nerds out there who are troubled, calm down, all is right with the new Star Trek movie of which I approve.
poshdeluxe: ZOMG!! Just saw the new star trek movie and it MELTED MY PANTS!!!!!\
headgeek666: holy fuck! the new Star Trek fucking rules the universe
simplygreg: Just finished seeing new Star Trek flick introduced by the writers, Damon Lindelof and, wait for it, Leonard Nimoy! It was amazing!
brentwit: the new Star Trek was awesome! happy early summer and thanks @drafthouse!
rodneydp: Yeah, that Star Trek 2 screening turned out to be the premiere of JJ Abram’s Star Trek. Seriously, I cannot believe how good it was.
planetary1: STAR TREK is GREAT in a way that scifi movies haven’t been for a long time. They really got it right. And, The Alamo Drafthouse Rules!
The World Premiere of Star Trek takes place in Sydney in a few hours. It’s imperative that word of mouth remains high for this picture because a month of bad press, is going to kill this movie like it nearly did, or some say did for Watchmen.

Wow did we luck out in Austin!!! I loved the movie! What an experience.
I nearly had to pinch myself to know this was real. I wasn’t prepared to watch the ENTIRE movie!!
@ Julia: Write a review. Send it to OWF. ;)
Any word on when the UK screening will take place?
Nice to see some of the meth-head inbred tweens/teens who thought Bayformers was on par with Citizen Kane drool on themselves as they tell us how “awesome” this flim is going to be.
I tell these pissing-on-themselves chumps to eat a fresh Klingon turd. Nobody asked them for their retardo seal of approval. As a fan of classic Trek I don’t need the braindead neuvo-retards who infest the internet and movie theaters to tell me what to feel or think about this movie.
I have my reservations and will continue to no matter what the sh*tstains (who probably got plenty of free swag to pimp this flick) say.
So the trash hating on people who feel Trek had plenty of life (albeit was being SORELY mismanaged!) should shut up, grow up and drop dead. In that order.
Fraak I’m jealous…Alamo Drafthouse beer swilling bastiches !!!
