Ashton Kutcher & Neil LaBute board Lakeview Terrace

Back in Januray, we reported that Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington had signed on to star in two of the three lead roles in the thriller Lakeview Terrace, with the third man yet to be cast.

Variety are reporting that third man has been cast, and it’s none other than Ashton Kutcher… cue the silence and stacks of hay rolling down the landscape!

Plot again for those who missed it the first time…

An interracial couple moves into a new home, but the dream house turns into a nightmare when they are taunted by their next-door neighbor, a tightly wound, racist LAPD officer.

So we now know that the interracial couple will be Kutcher and Washington, with Samuel L. Jackson as expected, playing the racist LAPD officer. Which I don’t know about you but the thought of Jackson as a loud mouthed racist cop has probably sold me on this movie already!

We also have a director for the movie now… Neil LaBute. OH NO.

You know I just wrote the entire article thinking, yeah I’ve heard of LaBute but I can’t remember where from. Cue…. the IMDB lookup….. he directed the fucking Wicker Man remake didn’t he.

Shooting begins in June but seriously this guy shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a camera. Hopefully Big Sam will keep the guy in check because before Kutcher and LaBute were on board, this sounded like a great little flick.

Go look at LaBute’s past works and remember that studio’s fuck with films all the time. The director’s cut on the DVD of Wicker Man is very LaBute. You’ve got to respect the fact the guy took all the backlash of screaming about that film, when it belonged in the front office and at Nic Cage’s feet.
He’s a great writer, and has the ability to direct, if he’s left alone to do his thing. Wait and see and don’t judge by what others do to his work. Remember Nurse Betty. Dark, funny and totally LaBute. He even re-wrote the dialog, and didn’t take credit when the screenplay won awards.
