There was a reason why my favourite Anna Faris performance is in Lost in Translation and that’s for the simple fact that she can’t really act. Her role as a B-Movie action star, kinda took the piss out of herself more than anything else and I think that was pretty brave of her and it made for a really interesting sub-plot in Sofia Coppola’s movie.
Another thing Faris isn’t, remarkably, is a strong comedy actress. She might just be the worst comedic actress in Hollywood truth be told, yet she is routinely cast in the genre because those movies can compensate for her lack of acting talent.
The news from MTV today is that she might be changing her direction slightly and going for a dramatic role. She is being lined up to play Linda Lovelace, the legendary porn star who found fame in the early 70’s movie Deep Throat, only to then become a big spokeswoman against pornography claiming she was abused and forced into sexual acts she wanted no part of.
You have probably heard of the documentary Inside Deep Throat from a couple of years back that depicted all these events.
The biopic that is being put together is titled Inferno with first time director Matthew Wilder helming what Faris described as…
“a really deep, dark drama…This would be incredibly intense…It would be the most difficult thing I’ve done, and I’m really nervous…It’s a pretty tragic story…It’s going to be a challenge, definitely.
The project is being held up at the moment because they can’t find an actor to play Linda’s husband.
It does seem like an interesting tale. I’m not one who has seen the 2005 documentary but I would be interested in seeing how this film turns out but with Anna Faris the lead? That’s a hard sell for me.

Anna is actually a wonderful dramatic *and* comic actress–have you ever seen Just Friends? A brilliant Robert Downey-like performance, inventive and ballsy. Or take a look at her stunning turn in Smiley Face–a movie that is essentially one long closeup of Anna Faris. She’s the top of the pops–and she’ll show everybody what she’s made of in Inferno.
i honestly think she’s the worst actress. She can fit in those stupid spoof movies perfectly, but I even think her role in My Super Ex Girlfriend should have been more serious, she jusz looks stupid. She cant take on a serious role, but if she can I need to see it first.
