Wolfgang Petersen is going all sci-fi on us.
Variety say the veteran helmer who is coming off the worst movie of his career with Poseidon, has signed on to direct Uprising, a rare ORIGINAL sci-fi project setup at Columbia Pictures.
Story revolves around the resistance efforts of some citizens after Earth has been occupied by a powerful alien race. Charles Leavitt (“Blood Diamond”) is writing the screenplay.
An ORIGINAL sci-fi project. Can you believe it? And is anyone else feeling a revitalization in the alien invasion movie that was pretty popular in the 90’s, coming back again?
We certainly support any movie in this genre that is not a remake, re-imagining, sequel or whatever. And Wolfgang Petersen is a good director, despite a couple of duds on his CV. When you have been making movies as long as Petersen has, I guess it’s inevitable there are gonna be some movies that don’t work fully.
Petersen is expected to direct the sci-fi adaptation or Orson Scott’s Card Ender’s Game before he makes this flick. No cast is attached to that movie as yet.
