City of God actress Alice Braga who will be starring in I Am Legend in the fall, has signed up for the lead female role in Repossession Mambo, a futuristic thriller that will star Jude Law and Forest Whitaker. The movie is being setup at Universal for Miguel Sapochnik to make his feature directing debut.
Eric Garcia has adapted his book to for the big screen alongside House scribe Garrett Lerner.
Based on Garcia’s novel, the story follows Remy (Law), a repo man made up of artificial organs, who receives a heart transplant. When he struggles to make the payments, he must go on the run from his former partner.
Braga will play Beth, who married but lost touch with Remy while he was serving in the Army. Ten years later, Beth — down on her luck and retrofitted with artificial organs — is reunited with Remy as they seek to run.
The movie sounds a carbon copy of Darren Lynn Bosuman’s musical horror flick Repo: The Genetic Opera but just made in a serious tone. This movie though is likely to come out after Repo which has a September start for an April 2008 release.
For Mambo, an October 15th start date in Toronto is planned for a probable release late next year says The Hollywood Reporter.

I always wondered what happened to her – and the same goes for a great many members of the City of God cast.
Those guys – most of them total amateurs on the acting stage, brought up in deprivation – completely put many established mainstream American actors to shame. It’s a shame that, so far, City of God hasn’t launched a massive movement of Brazilian talent. I found Meirelles’s The Constant Gardener to be really disappointing and, apart from Braga and the guy who played Knockout Ned appearing in the Life Aquatic, I’ve not heard of any of the other cast members doing much.
