On Monday morning, the fate of the Resident Evil franchise will come a lot clearer. If the latest movie Resident Evil: Extinction makes money then a new movie will soon be put into development and the series will be secure for one more outing however if it fails, then thankfully this last movie will be just that… the last.
According to rumors started by actress Ali Larter however, the movie might be the last for star Milla Jovovich regardless of how well it does at the Box Office. Larter has told Shock Till You Drop that she has heard rumors that her character Claire Redfield who gets second highest billing in the latest movie, could be the lead of a possible Resident Evil 4 with Jovovich’s character gone completely.
The latest Resident Evil movie is being panned by critics at the moment but these movies have always been popular so I don’t see it effecting the box office too much. The only thing that will see the numbers go down is the crappy trailer and the audience getting sick of seeing this series, rather than being told by critics that it’s bad.
Could the series survive without Jovovich? I really don’t think it could. She is clearly one of the few action heroines we have in movies today. If Jovovich doesn’t wanna do anymore, I say kill the series… going with Ali Larter would be a big mistake which would probably end up with straight-to-dvd material.

Just got back from seeing rez 3
Not the best movie but not the worst by far.
Now As I see it they could take the series in 2 different directions.
I don’t want to give any spoilers but they did leave themselves an out if Milla decides not to return.
I would be surprised if she didn’t especially if her soon to be hubby Paul W.S. Anderson has any han in the script writing or even the directing.

After seeing the movie last night, there’s no possible way for this franchise to go on if Milla Jovovich is replaced…heck, the character of Claire Redfield wasn’t even that good. I found her to be a rather cliche heroine character, trying to be tough and all. But Ali Larter, imo, didn’t really pull off a good character, or at least an interesting one that could lead a separate series.
Hell, the things you learn in this 3rd movie about milla’s character makes the idea of replacing her all the more horrible. you can’t just scrap her and go on with some bland macho woman who you don’t give a rat’s ass about.
Thats my take on it. You replace Milla, you kill the franchise or series or whatever. RE: Extinction was soooo much better than RE: Apocolypse, but it still had a lot of problems and pitfalls. But i think they did the best they could with being in a freaking desert most of the movie…would have to be certain that milla returns or else it breaks and you lose lots and lots of fans..(not to mention, its not resident evil anymore…cuz milla kinda epitomized and created an iconic role that SAYS resident evil)

I just got out of RE3. Not bad. Could’ve been better.
I like the fact that they are thinking about switching the
main characters up if there is a forth film. If the writing
and directing is good then the forth should be a hit. The
actor isn’t the only one who “makes the film”.
Plus if you look back at the game series..they switch it up
as well from one main character to another then back again
so on and so
forth.
And on a personal note. I believe Paul Anderson makes a
better Producer than a writer or director. Just as long
as he doesn’t give to much of his bad creative input.

Well i agree with you on the fact that how well the movie does will determine weather or not a RE:4 will go into production, however i feel if milla will not return Alli Larter can hold the series if they bring in Chris Redfeild and bring back the girl who played jill in RE:2. The franchise is getting better with ever movie made they just need a good approach to them… I say bring on another movie and stick to the game this time and bring chris redfield and jill valentine in the movie! and kill wesker!

Ok, if they need alice’s blood for the cure… and she has clones… and shes the main reason why people see the movies… why the fu** would they replace her.. i am in love with Milla Jovovich, she is such a talented actor.. and if they replace her, i wont even pay a $6 ticket to see the “miss im all that all mighty” (claire) in a movie with no life whatsoever.. Ofcourse Milla has to be in the 4th movie..there will be alot of unhappy people if she isnt..
Comment by Jennifer | October 10, 2007
Milla has to be in the 4th one, if not there will be no sense in making it. They say her blood is the cure, without her there is no cure and no need for a 4th movie. I think they should make a 4th movie and leave milla in it.
Comment by Russell | October 26, 2007
No! Milla can’t leave the Resident Evil movies! I love Milla and Alice SO much, because of her, I love the Resident Evil movies. So please, don’t leave these movies Milla, I beg you, please? If there will be the fourth Resident Evil movie, please Milla please, act as Alice, once again! Please, I beg you! I-I love your movies so much. ;_;

Replacing Milla would be a mistake. There is no way that the 4th movie could do anything good with Ali Larter as the front woman. There is still plenty of meat for this franchise to work with and several possibilites to make an exciting 4th movie. I truly believe that it would be a grave error not having Milla as the front woman. Just ask me if you need any writing tips and I will be happy to help out.
Thank you oh and I would like to see a 4th movie with much more Milla!

I agree with you all… No Jovovich, no franchise as far as I’m concerned.

Just seen RE 3 and loved it if they take Milla Jovovich’s Alice out then how will they explain the ending to the movie when she told them she was coming after them and bring more with her? Take out Alice ( Milla Jovovich) and you kill the movie. Ali Larter is good but not as good as Milla we need her as Alice, her blood is the cure, so they said in RE 3 so why kill the story line? They kill the story line they have now it will bomb at the box office and they can forget the fans, we will find something else.

Milla Jovovich has the talent and looks great and perfectly suits for this action franchise.I’m surprised by seeing this blog.if milla contract for the 3 films is over, then there is no need to continue the RE franchise. and she cannot be replaced by some blonde(claire field). if they are willing to continue with out Milla then the ending of RE extinction makes no sense. and also bringing back Jill character will be nice in next RE4 . and being as a fan and the people who loves this RE series around the globe will be disappointed ,if Milla is not present in next installment.

Its not a good idea to replace Milla in resident evil. For sure, many fans of her will be sad and I am one of them. Its nice hear that they are planning to make RE4 and I am waiting for that but I want Milla to stay. I Love resident evil so much especially Milla Jovovich. For me, Milla is the perfect one to do the role of Alice. No one can ever replace her! Shes the perfect Alice. and When you say RESIDENT EVIL it means MILLA JOVOVICH!!!!!!!

the resident evil the third 1 i thought it was really good just like the other first an second film.I heard that some other charactor might be replacing milla jovovich if thay bring another resident evil film out, well i think thats crap coz its milla who make the film good, and it wont be the same if another acter wouold play milla becuase she ended the last film by saying i,m coming for you and i,m gonna bring a few of my friends, so there,s got to be another resident evil film out if not i,m gonna be so pissed off.And there,s gotta be a sequal out and please milla jovovich please play alice again.i luv your films its so interesting an o lot ov action.i love resident evil 1,2,3, coz i watch em over an over again.

I wont be watching resident eil 4 if it comes out in the near future because milla wont be in it its what made her carrer and she knows the role more than any other actress and it wont be the same without milla cos she makes the film look good and no other actress will come close to milla in the film it will be a FLOP with out her do it 1 more time milla
Comment by Andy | April 20, 2008
i think its stupid to get rid of alice cause she is the point to movies. her blood is the cure so why the hell do they want to replace her and milla puts a great affect to the movies she makes you feel that alice is new to the world and all that. so the creators of the movie better not get rid of the charector alice cause then there will be no real horro or adventur to the movie(i think) but if you want claire redfield in the movie have in it but with alice!!!!

To the producers of RESIDENT EVIL movies,
have you tried to read the comments of the fans regarding the RE4 and the said replacement of Milla Jovovich? If you haven’t read any, I would be glad to summarize it. Trillions of fans of RE wants to have RE4 since the ending of the RE3 left a very exciting scenes to the fans. Alice said she will bring more of her friends (the clones). So if the character of Alice will be killed in RE4, what’s the purpose of the sequel? New start? New beginning? Oh c’mon guys! A fourth sequel to the movie should continue on where the RE3 ends. A sequel is badly needed in this movie since the RE3 left a hanging end..not finish! In fact, the climax of the RE movies would be in RE4 since Alice will focus on destroying the main root/cause of the zombies. When Alice is done with the Umbrella Corporation, she can now focus on the cure to stop the growing numbers of zombies and totally get rid of it. Most of the fans are waiting what will happen to the revenge of Alice? What will happen to the zombies? And most importantly, what will happen to Project Alice! Please guys, all of us (the fans) beg you to have even just 1 last RE movie to totally finish the story. However, in order to fully connect the RE4 to RE3, the new sequel needs PROJECT ALICE..MILLA JOVOVICH! Please beg her to do the last sequel for the sake of her fans. Tell her that the RE4 with her on it will be her greatest gift to her fans right now. We will never ever forget her for doing the RE4.So,if this could be done, can you imagine what a blockbuster hit it would be?So please guys…do the resident evil4 and have Milla play the Alice once last time.
Thank you in advance!

IF MILLA LEAVES, I WILL NOT WATCH THE FILTH OF WHAT WILL BECOME. how gay is that?! Milla MAKES the movie. Without her, its just another movie. PLEASE MILLA DO IT!

[Spoiler warning] I just watched the trilogy again. The ending of Extinction leaves you craving two things: you want to see Wesker and Umbrella go down with as much suffering and humiliation as possible, and you want to see Alice begin to find resolution to her epic nightmare. The last 15 minutes of Extinction opens up a new plot development and Milla opens up new character development, both of which must be followed up on in part 4. The plot development is when Alice learns that her blood is the key to a cure, and the computer (homicidal bitch’s sister program) seems willing to assist in the process. The character development begins in the previous scene, when Alice loses Olivera, the last person on Earth that she’s close to, and then sends Claire’s survivors off in the helicopter because *she has business to finish here.* Initially, that business is to kick Dr. Issac’s ass and finally get him and his satellites off of her tail. But there’s a moment when she learns that her blood is the cure in which a whole new sense of purpose and promise of hope comes over her. It’s quickly distracted by the psychotic mutant downstairs. But the point is this (Paul Anderson please hear me)… all the cries of “BRING MILLA BACK” on this page aren’t just because we like to watch her kicking ass, they’re because we CARE about her character. Alice has been through hell and has fought valiantly while growing in power and more importantly in personal strength. We want to see her win in the big picture and fulfill her destiny, which is not longer just about hacking zombies or whacking Wesker or destroying Umbrella… you took it beyond those things when you let her become the cure to the worldwide epidemic. Take her there.
And if you can realistically work Sienna Guillory’s Jill Valentine back into the plot and introduce Chris Redfield… dude that would rock!

I think part of the problem they caused with the numerous clone ending is that they can almost do anything they want. A telekenetic infected yet immune superwoman who kicks ass. And now there are tons of her. She could totally take most if not all the undead by herself and the producers have to be wary of not over using her but at the same time not undermine her abilities. I mean they could just have seperate squads of Alice running to each of the Umbrella Corps. simultaneously and the movie could end in an hour. Plus, if one Alice were to die, how would the audience differenciate with the clones and the original. BTW the end could be good and they could allow Alice to cure the undead or they could kill her off near the end. And those of you who think the producers could replace Alice with a clone are wrong. It is shown in the 3rd movie that the clones weren’t able to perform at the capacity of the original because every one of them failed the tests. And their blood, even though its cloned, couldn’t cure the undead(the reason why they wanted Project Alice in their grasps). If there is a 4th movie, it would most likely start with the separation in the 3rd movie and show what the convoy group goes through in Alaska. None of the original characters, minus Alice, are alive. Likewise, none of the characters(well we don’t know what happened to Jill Valentine or the little girl who seemed to be similar to Alice but it is safe to say if they weren’t with Carlos and LJ then they are dead) from the 2nd movie are alive. This shows the trend of the writers, killing off all the previous installments characters other than Alice so it would not make sense for them to keep her alive at the end of the 3rd movie and have an army of herself, only to be killed off in a later installment, other than shock factor/Milla being unable to perform the role any longer. To finally end this LONG RANT, the only possible way for a semi decent way to continue the series without the character Alice would be if she had a child that could kick ass like their mother, or the little girl from the 2nd installment returns and has some of the same abilities as Alice, as the little girl is immune to the virus as well.

Oh and P.S: Milla Jovovitch just gave birth last year, so that would probably explain the rumor of being replaced, at least for a movie or two.

From Wikipedia:
In a March 2006 interview, Jovovich said that she would not appear in another action film “for a long time”, expressing a desire to portray more diverse roles,[1] but she added that talks of another sequel in the Resident Evil franchise were a “real possibility.

WTF HAPPENED TO SIENNA GUILORY’S CHARACTER, JILL VALENTINE?!!!
Also, they need Milla in the next movie, she’s the main character. Everyone else said it: She’s gonna end the zombie infection and ruin the Umbrella Corp.
Milla, please be in the future RE movies! No one’s gonna watch it if you’re not in it.

I say resident evil 4 let milla finish it off & put the umbrella corp under ,
,but do it with a good plot & allow milla to leave on a nice note to do future endeavors, If she doesn’t star in re4 I will not see it doesn’t make sense.
