Alan Horn addresses HARRY POTTER 6 delay complaints

I’m not really a Harry Potter fan but I have to say Warner Bros. decision this late in the day to delay the next movie in the series just three months before it was due to be released worldwide and for the film to be completely in the can is just sickening.

No matter what pathetic wording WB President Alan Horn attempts to conjure up here, he made a bad move. A greedy move for money with not a single thought in mind for what is best for the fans, the same goes with the decision to split the last movie in two.

Here’s Horn’s statement after a massive number of complaints from fans…

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009.

Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability.

The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support.

If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010.

So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Alan Horn
President, Chief Operating Officer
Warner Bros.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will now be released on July 17th 2009 instead of it’s November 21st 2008 original date.

Stupid, stupid excuse

This was a big mistake on WB’s part. Children outgrow their books and movies, and Harry Potter has lasted a lot longer than most of the other fads. By dragging it out, they risk losing more of their audience to the competition geared toward the older teens and would-be younger recruits. I decorated a bedroom in a “wizard” theme to suit the tastes of the children I nannied, it is now covered in Twilight posters and vampire paraphanalia. I doubt they will go see the movie next summer.

A load of rhetorical nonsense… “we’d clearly never do anything to hurt any of the films…”
You mean, ” we’d clearly not want anything to jeopardize our chances of making tons and tons of money!”

Lencho on August 20, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Eh, most of the people who complain about it will see it anyway.

OMG think about it, the half blood prince is going to really well, what the hell is going to stop him from releasing the BIGGEST grossing film in the series and is going to break some records (maybe)of course im talking about deathly hallows yeah right like he’s really gonna release deathly hallows part 1 in november. If he releases teh half blood prince in the summer why the hell wouldn’t he move the biggest book to the summer, he’s lieing to everybody and smiling while doing it, what are the fans gonna say or do, protest the movie? Yeah right!

Fuck movie corparations!!!!@#$%

Scott on August 20, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Do we look stupid!! They cannot keep their stories straight. We know what the original statement said that was given by Alan Horn. We all read it was done to make more money!! Now they are trying to come up with any excuses to cover their b–ts They have so underestimated HP fans. Daniel Radcliff could probably run naked thru Time Square and it would not make much difference. He is stiil Harry Potter to us. We can make the distiction between them. No more WB movies for my family and friends untill they bring back THBP in 2008, or no more period. We have been totally dismissed by WB. We will see if we are still dismissed when it affects their bottom line

HJ on August 22, 2008 at 6:20 pm

PIERS on September 14, 2008 at 11:56 pm

If you really want to make a difference, hit WB where it hurts, in their pocket. Boycott WB films till Horn restores the November 2008 release date AND email WB and tell them ! ! AND email Jo Rowling to complain too !

‘ Dumbledor’s Army – still recruiiting ‘ !!!

kkk on October 19, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Well im seriously disapointed like the rest of harry potter fans.
what is alan horn thinking? i mean coooooooome on, who here is disperate to see hbp?alan horn is thinking that a film called twilight will stop harry potter getting the most money it can get.Thats just greedy.
i hope jk rowling doesnt approve of this.

john on October 27, 2008 at 10:54 pm

And has alan horn even read thbp?
i dont think he has.
greed is the answer to this.
I hope twilight will get me interested for the NEXT 8 months.
i dont think it’ll work though.

geoff jones on June 18, 2009 at 10:52 pm

warner bros are showing their true colours, they have no interest in what the public want only what they want to happen and when!! alan horn can keep his well measured responses to his corporate board room

DWA on September 6, 2009 at 4:11 pm

I HATE WB. I BET THEY WILL DELAY DEATHLY HALLOWS AS WELL, I HOPE THEY REALLY DO SUFFER. I HOPE THEY MAKE VERY LITTLE MONEY FROM THIS DECISION
