Arkin_HG0106505_150x200.jpgAlan Arkin, who surprised many (but not me!) by picking up a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award on Sunday Night for his performance in Little Miss Sunshine, is to re-team with the star of that movie, Steve Carell.

The film is of course Get Smart, which we have talked about several times before and has a cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Terence Stamp and The Rock.

Get Smart is based on the 1965 Mel Brooks/Buck Henry series of the same name that ran for a total of 138 episodes. The show starred Don Adams (to be played by Steve Carell) as a bumbling secret agent who along with his female partner Agent 99 (to be played by Anne Hathaway) would solve cases usually because of luck rather than intelligence.

Arkin is set to play the chief of CONTROL, a role played by Edward Platt in the original show.

Great stuff, I’m still liking the sound of this. The cast is so talented but at the same time so diverse that it’s got me really intrigued.

Problem is Peter Segal is directing…. his resume includes The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates, The Nutty Proffessor II: The Klumps, Naked Gun 33 1/3 which all SUCK but he did make Anger Management which was mildly entertaining.

I thought that the pairing of Arkin and Carell was a no brainer, but I’m wondering how it will look for Anne Hathaway to be the agent at the side of Carell during the whole movie. They will have to make her look a lot older if they don’t want it to look creepy.
