Fox 2000 have hired last year’s Oscar winner Alan Arkin to join MARLEY & ME, a movie that presumably is back on schedule after Owen Wilson’s personal problems in the Summer.
Officially, he is still expected to lead the movie alongside Jennifer Aniston with Variety reporting that the film will shoot once Aniston has completed the Brandon Camp movie TRAVELING.
Based on John Grogan’s best seller, the movie will follow Wilson as a newspaper columnist who along with his wife decides to adopt a dog to give the couple a taste of parenthood. Of course the Labrador retriever is a pain in the ass, turning their lives completely in a spin. Arkin will play the head editor of the newspaper Wilson works at.
Whatever you think of Owen Wilson as an actor or the idea of this movie in general, it’s really great to see the young man back in the groove and acting once again. Arkin is a great supporting actor who will no doubt bring the same proffesional coolness that Meryl Streep brought to director David Frankel’s previous movie THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.
