Well there ain’t no way in hell I’m seeing a spoof of the ‘end of the world’ scenario with Disaster Movie but I have to admit this poster made me chuckle.
Nice imagery on the poster which manages to evoke both The Day After Tomorrow and maybe even Cloverfield with one of the best taglines of the year… “Al Gore Was Right”.
Carmen Electra & Kim Kardashian seem to be the top billing on this one. Oh dear. And it goes without saying it’s from the same team as Date Movie, Epic Movie & Meet the Spartans.
Look for it at the end of August but I’m predicting a disaster.

Does anyone remember a time when spoofs were stimulating, inspired affairs and not stilted attempts by Hollywood to stitch together half-arsed hack-job designed to squeeze easy box office returns from bored adolescents to emotionally and intellectually challenged to watch a film that might require some thought over the course of 80 minutes?
Meet the Spartans, Date Movie, Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, another Scary Movie, yawn. There’s a world of witty comedians out there and a world rich for satirical exploration. It’s a shame that these big, bland spoofs rake in the revenues and that the genuine comedy that has character is mainly limited to TV and the Internet.

What, you mean The Day After Tomorrow wasn’t a spoof?
Seriously though, this will be a great record of just how far the spoof format has fallen. The spoof movie was born with Airplane!, the classic template for that kind of comedy. Airplane! is still funny today, even if you don’t get then-topical references like the Saturday Night Fever spoof or the kid recognising Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
On the other hand, if this is actually funny now, it will be a miracle given the team’s past track record. If they’re true to form, it will be a sequence of unfunny replays of scenes from other movies, which might be slightly funny in some way if you’ve seen the original recently.
The top tagline takes some balls though: “Not another shallow Hollywood movie”? Yes, actually it is…

I wrote a script for a film like this when I was in college. My title was better, though…
“THE END OF THE WORLD: The Movie”

I can understand the negative attitude people are taking toward this film, but it will be entertaining to see how these movies are being spoofed now and the poster is pretty creative. I am not going to bad mouth this just yet!
