Hugo Weaving has joined the cast of THE WOLF MAN, which will begin lensing under the direction of Joe Johnston (HIDALGO, JURASSIC PARK III) next week in London.
He will play the role of Detective Aberline, the man pursuing this mysterious creature who lives by night and after doing voice work in TRANSFORMERS, HAPPY FEET and also being behind a mask in V FOR VENDETTA - this role will mark the first time we have seen his face on screen in four years (by the time of it’s release next February).
That is unless the small Australian movie he has recently completed alongside Rose Bryne titled THE TENDER HOOK gets a theatrical distribution this year.
Variety also report that David Self (ROAD TO PERDITION, THE HAUNTING) has done a script re-write from the original Andrew Kevin Walker script, something I previously wasn’t aware of.
The project sure doesn’t catch my exictement as much as it once did now that Mark Romanek has gone but at least his awesome cast has stayed the same. Benico del Toro will give a career defining performance in this one I’m sure, and Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt are so fine actors and then you have the great Rick Baker (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON) doing what he does best with the visual effects.
Now Johnston just needs to cast Gary Oldman for the part of Bela, and I will be a happy man.
