Obsessed With Film

Sorry guys in the States, this news probably won’t mean anything to you but…

Dark Horizons are reporting that The Queen trio Stephen Frears (director), Michael Sheen (actor) and Peter Morgan (writer) have been encouraged by the success of their biopic of The Queen, so much so that they are set to do the same for the late great football manager Brian Clough.

The movie will be called Bloody United (great title, I can just imagine Cloughie saying it!!) and Sheen let the cat out of the bag on UK Teletext….

“This is going to be very hard-hitting and gritty, it’s set before football was glamour and showbiz and was harder and much tougher. I know Peter is very interested in the political side of Clough - he was a great socialist…

…I’ve played Tony Blair and Kenneth Williams, people not known for their humility, so old big ‘ead will be in that vein”.

I think this is great! Cloughie was a fascinating person who’s rather bizarre and harsh managerial methods were unbelievably successful for Nottingham Forest, who he even managed to win The European Cup with.

He is also well known for his playing career as he was capped twice for England and for his hilarious post-match interviews…

“I certainly wouldn’t say I’m the best manager in the business, but I’m in the top one.”

I have yet to see The Queen, but Michael Sheen looked absolutely superb as British Prime Minister Tony Blair from all the clips I have seen. If he can bring the same sort of transformation and likeness as Brian Clough, then Bloody United will one movie to look out for next year, and possibly even Awards material.
