Oh yes, it’s nearing that time of the year again when we reflect on another 12 months of movie entertainment and decide which 24 frames per second movies were worth the trip, and which one’s weren’t.
Which movies will we still be talking about in ten, twenty or thirty years time?
Which ten movies were the absolute best that 2007 had to offer, and the one’s which truly give us hope about the future of the industry?
I don’t post many lists on this site apart from my own but I just realised that last year I posted about the AFI’s list when they shockingly picked THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, DREAMGIRLS and HAPPY FEET, and as it’s a slow news day (as it probably was then too)… I thought I would do the same again.
This year they seem to have had their head screwed on a bit tighter (remember, it’s the AFI… so only American films are chosen)…
Only real surprise would be THE SAVAGES (where did that come from?) and the inclusion of KNOCKED UP. Now don’t start hating me, I thought KNOCKED UP was great and should be the mould for the future of the rom-com, but really… in the top ten?
Ahead of ZODIAC? Ahead of YUMA? Ahead of GANGSTER? Ahead of BOURNE?
RATATOUILLE I loved but sadly I haven’t seen the rest. To be fair to myself, I believe only INTO THE WILD and MICHAEL CLAYTON have actually opened here in the U.K. to date out of those I haven’t seen, both of which looked ‘middle of the road’ and ‘wait for DVD’ material.
JUNO really has turned into this year’s LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and it is likely to do well come awards nominations time. THERE WILL BE BLOOD and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN look likely to be the two that will last the test of the time the longest.
So don’t tell me your best films of the year YET… only let me know what you think of the AFI’s list and whether you think KNOCKED UP sticks out like a sore thumb?
And what the fuck is THE SAVAGES again?

Michael Clayton, despite the lacklustre title, was surprisingly good.
However, I can’t get my head around this comment… “KNOCKED UP was great and should be the mould for the future of the rom-com”.
You’re fucking kidding me right?
I must admit out of all them, CLAYTON is the DVD I am anticipating the release of the most. Clooney is such a great actor and has been on fire recently.
Yeah sure, why can’t we see more in the mould of KNOCKED UP. Rom-coms with really up to date commentary and references, sexual and social political discussions and a real fucking heart and story.
Story wins the day for me. SUPERBAD barely had it and it didn’t work nearly as well as KNOCKED UP, the best movie the genre has seen in years.
“Yeah sure, why can’t we see more in the mould of KNOCKED UP”
Because it was shit?
Eh, each to their own I guess.
