A second poster for The Invasion

Posted by Matt Holmes

rj.jpgThe second poster for The Invasion has made it’s way online. Starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig the Invasion of the Body Snatches remake was originally set to be released last year under the direction of Downfall director Olivier Hirschbiegel.

However Warner Brothers weren’t convinced by Hirschiegel’s “art film” and they flew in The Wachowski’s and (we believe) also James McTeigue to do some action re-shoots to make the film more of a summer blockbuster with the intention of improving the marketing potential of the flick.

It is of course the classic case of a director’s vision vs. a studio’s money and the latter wanting to make a return on their investment. You can’t blame the studio for what they did but if they wanted a summer popcorn flick then they shouldn’t have hired such a talented dramatic director. They should have hired someone like McTeigue in the first place.

A new poster has turned up at Cinematical and I quite like it. Love the red tint and the top half of it especially.

The Invasion hits cinema’s in the U.S. next month (October for U.K.) and if your anything like me you will be distracted all the way through the film wondering who exactly shot which scene!

  1. I can’t say I’ve exactly been waiting on pins for this one, but I like Daniel Craig. However, when I see the studio adding directors to a movie, that’s NEVER a good sign. It means the studio is scared sh*tless at the daily’s they’ve been seeing. Keep in mind, they’ve let plenty of crap go to theaters without touching it (Catwoman for instance) even if it was complete dung (The Fountain) but for a studio to intervene like this, means they feel the production has gone SERIOUSLY off the rails, and that no editor in the universe can fix it.

And if this guy has blown millions just to scare the studio, then I can only wonder how bad this movie will be.

  2. I like the look of this new poster. Totally oldschool.

  3. In that case, I’ll wait for the inevitable DVD release of both movies in a Dominion/Exorcist: The Beginning style.
