A second poster for Jesse James

Just days after I was wowed by the first full length trailer for the Brad Pitt Western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, I find myself a little dumbstruck by the poster. It’s a little bland and what’s with the footer names being half way down the poster and the film’s title is sure going to be hard to read when your walking down the theatre aisle, distracted by the pretty colours of other posters.

I believe Warner Brothers gave up on this $30 million Western months and months ago, and it’s limited release proves it. They want to release it without much fanfare, kinda push it under the carpet and just see what happens. Hope it becomes a hit on DVD or something.

Shame because this movie looks killer and if 3:10 to Yuma happened to be a success, it could easily have had a knock on effect for this movie which is released just a few weeks later. I’m really hoping Lionsgate begin to pull through with the advertising of Yuma. It’s been quiet from the studio so far, let’s hope they don’t mess up a money making potential.

Ultra-bland. An archetypal wallpaper poster that doesn’t look interesting at all. I doubt it will encapture anyone, even papparazzo-rag reading followers of Brad Pitt’s latest bowel movements.

Why do they crap all over the promise of these killer-looking westerns by releasing such rubbish promo material?

In the case of this movie, I’m actually surprised they even got round to releasing a trailer and poster this week.

I can’t help but think the movie is going to be bad unfortuntely. Just like The Invasion, this movie has gone through lots of post-production changes but I guess we will see.

Trailers have shown promise though. I’m hopeful. People say it’s a thinking man’s Western… A Terrence Malick esque flick… which should be interesting.

Matt-
Have you seen Brad Pitt on the cover of Cowboys and Indians magazine? They got a great picture on it, Looks to be from the same photoshoot this one-sheet came from.

Wish they’d used that one.
