Lexi Alexander (director of GREEN STREET and the upcoming PUNISHER: WAR ZONE) has been sent the script for the Warner Bros/DC comic book property JONAH HEX.
Alexander admits to IGN that she is only one of several directors who have been sent the script to mull over after the studio pushed script writers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor off the directing duties of their gunslinging hero.
Even though Neveldine and Taylor have departed the project, it’s still their script that the potential directors have been reading. Naturally, Alexander admits she is very interested in the project because of Josh Brolin’s possible attachment. Brolin is playing the wait and see game to see who WB hire.
Hopefully, WB have sent the script to more experienced and established directors than Lexi because I firmly believe with Brolin on board, hardly anyone is out of their reach for this property now. Even The Coens, perhaps?

The Coen’s would be a horrible choice. They would make it perfect but it still would never happen. They would not make a western comic movie with an actor they just made a modern day western with. I think that your belief that the Coen’s are even a possibility is naive (i’ve seen you mention it a few times). They are about the only film makers with standards any more and i highly doubt they would trip up with makin this. They like to jump from genre to genre and i just don’t see it happening.
If they make a western I hope it is that ultra bloody western they were talkin about right after No Country. I don’t want them in comics I want them to continue to make the hauntingly awesome films that they see fit.
to finish aint gonna happen.
Have you ever read Jonah Hex? I’m going to assume no since you seem to think that its similar to Wild Wild West. Go read some of Jonah Hex and tell me why the Coen’s wouldn’t be perfect for it.
You took the words right out of my mouth KC- Hex totally fits the “ultra-bloody western” description.
My only qualm is the casting- Brolin may be good in just about everything he applies himself to, but he doesnt hold the right kind of menace. Oh for a Clint Eastwood-alike, or even Sean Bean, if he managed to finally muster up a passable American accent. That’s about the right look (albeit with som grisly facial prosthetics to capture THAT winning smile). But Brolin always seems a little soft around the edges.
I will confess i have not read the books. I know they also alude to aliens and such. I also agree, the coen’s would crush on it if they made it. They are the best directors of your time. I just don’t see them ever agreeing to doing this style movie soooo close to No Country. If they do .. STRAIGHT UP! i just don’t see it.
