A Blunt taming for THE WOLFMAN?

Posted by Matt Holmes

Emily BluntEmily Blunt put in one of my favourite female performances last year as the rather bitchy but desperate to succeed p/a to Meryl Streep in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and she is probably one of the more exciting young actresses’ out there.

I can’t wait to see what should be her breakthrough role in THE YOUNG VICTORIA, where she should once again bring us her powerfully strong accent and mean but assured deliverance of lines. The younger life of one of England’s most famous Monarch’s should make for some fascinating viewing when it opens next year.

Back to today’s news and CHUD.com are carrying the ‘all but confirmed’ rumor that Blunt is up for the role of Benicio Del Toro’s love interest in the remake of THE WOLFMAN to be directed by ONE HOUR PHOTO helmer Mark Romanek and to co-star the legendary Anthony Hopkins.

In the original 1941 film, the love interest was a Welsh girl named Gwen (played by Evelyn Ankers) who ran an antique shop.

Despite the 16 years age gap between the pair this actually suits the film, as Evelyn was 23 when she played the part in the 40’s when the great Lon Chaney Jr was 41.

What a cast Romanek has put together. Shame we won’t see this till 2009, but then it’s only 14 months to wait… that doesn’t sound quite as bad does it. Not when we have tons of movies to fill our time between now and then!
