8 Ways to improve the next James Bond film

CraigWhile I’m talking about Bond, you all know I wasn’t too keen on Casino Royale. It was definitely the best Bond film since GoldenEye and it was damn entertaining for the most part but it lacked that classic Bond nostalgia feel and it made some decisions with the Bond character that I wasn’t fond of.

I can see why so many people like it but I wasn’t floored by it. Here’s ten things I would suggest they improve on or continue with for the currently untitled Bond 22…

1) Biggest thing is to KEEP CONTINUITY. You have a fresh thing going guys and you can pretty much do whatever you want with this version of Bond. Let’s see this character grow, let’s see the past events effect him… just like Spider-Man and the X-Men series etc.

2) Keep the idea of the BIG BAD ORGANISATION that is in the background, mysteriously pulling the strings. Don’t give too much away about the organisation in the next film but make everyone aware that’s there’s a real evil boss somewhere. You know how Blofeld use to be built up in the early flicks?

3) A Bond that isn’t so COLD AND DETACHED. A bit more of a likeable Bond please, although still as physical as he was in Casino Royale.

3) BRING BACK Q - The character was sorely missed in the last movie and those moments with Q in the previous Bond flicks were always my favourite. They had a light and very humorous touch and were cool as hell to see all these futuristic gadgets which would so often end up becoming everyday things. This is a must!

4) BRING BACK MONEYPENNY - I missed the chemistry of Bond and M’s secretary. Another couple of minutes of great humor in the next film will be welcome from me.

5) More of the JOHN BARRY SCORE - It only made an appearance at the end of the last film and I get what they were doing, allowing the score to introduce the newly arrived Bond but next time it needs to be heard a lot more in the film… as he’s Bond now from the beginning.

6) Bond should STILL MAKE MISTAKES - Again it’s this continuity thing. This should be Bond’s second big mission, which means he can still do things a little naively.

7) Less of the EVIL M speeches - M should be tough on Bond but she shouldn’t be the god damn devil. And I really don’t need to see her A) in bed and b) in her apartment.

8) Bond in a WHITE JACKET - Even if it’s only for a second!

  1. I disagree with most of these. Though mind you the only Bond film I ever liked was GoldenEye, though Casino Royale had a couple moments, sadly all in the first fifteen minutes.

Cold and Detached. This is a good fit for Bond. The “charming devil” that we’ve been force-fed for the last forty years has gotten REALLY old. Let’s see this guy act like he’s a life-and-death profession. Leave the dumbass one-liners to Tom Cruise, or Ben Affleck, if he ever makes a spt-film. Cold and Detached is when Bond is at his most likeable.

Bring back Q. It always struck a wrong chord with me to have a group of bumblers and idiots playing with gadgets in a movie where people died every fifteen minutes. Besides, do we really NEED an old man explaining what wacky toy he’s come up with this time? Let Q rest in peace.

MoneyPenny. Bond bags every gal he meets. I’ve neevr understood the point of having a secretary that he hits on, then never sleeps with. In fact, why is she there at all? Slows the damned movie down. Let her stay retired too.

John Barry Score. Haven’t we heard the 60’s go-go twang-twang score long enough? I was SO glad when they didn’t use it in CR. If I NEVER hear it again I won’t miss it.

Not sure how I feel about the “let him make mistakes” angle. In his line of work (especially with the serious tone CR established) mistakes will get you and your team tortured and killed, as they did in CR. Bond doesn’t have to be plot-device brilliant, but in his line of work there’s no learning curve, it’s pass or fail, and the failing grade is death.

Oh, and I agree he should be in a white jacket…though ONLY for a second. Don’t want people thinking he’s the waiter.

  2. Can’t see Q coming back for a while as they are looking for a more realistic Bond as before Casino Royale the gadgets were becoming too far fetched.

  3. Yeah they should do that for the new film, have some obnoxious rich guy mistake Bond for being a waiter and he should put tons of chili powder in his food. You know, similar situation to when he wrecked the dude’s car who thought he worked at the hotel and threw him his keys.
