Peter Steinfield who wrote the script about the card counting M.I.T students who took millions from Las Vegas casino’s which became the movie 21 is to scribe about another wicked scandal.
This one is Money for Nothing - Edward Ugel’s memoirs on his scheme of talking big lottery winners into taking lump-sum cash payments against their future earnings which of course resulted in him taking a big chunk for himself. Ugel was 26 and living in his parents basement at the time but turned that around with his legal - but possibly not moral scheme to earn a huge salary for himself.
But everyone’s gotta make a living right? Fair play to him. His memoirs were published in September…
Matchstick Men meets 21?
I love these true life tale scheme flicks - the kind of story that the brilliant Catch Me If You Can was born out of. Now let’s see if Steinfield’s writings can attract as big a star as Kevin Spacey for this one.
