I didn’t post this yesterday because quite frankly I didn’t find it news worthy but I’m literally getting sick of people e-mailing me about this frikkin movie (not that we don’t appreciate each and every E-Mail you send us guys). I didn’t realise fan demand for a new MORTAL KOMBAT movie was so high?
mink, the stupid name for the B-Movie director of the Steven Seagal “classic” INTO THE SUN has revealed some details about the status of the new MK movie. But if you actually read what he says, you could almost copy and paste what he said all the way back in May… this movie has made no progress in six months, we already knew it was a MK BEGINS affair.
mink said this to Moviehole…
“…the Producers are working out their deals with the studio and arranging their financing… [MK is a] re-envisioning(if that is a word) of the Mortal Kombat franchise from top to bottom. Todays audience is a savvy involved group so the film must be A plus plus in every area in order to capture the magic of the first film. It is taking the entire concept to the next level across the board in every area visual design, story, cast, FX, photography and most importantly the fighting scenes. The original Mortal Kombat game was born a child of many visual loves by the creators at midway so this latest version borrows heavily from that pioneering spirit and must be thought out and executed at the highest level in order for it succeed in today’s market place. This is no overnight task.”
“First things first, is the way these larger projects need to be done. It is still in the business stages but once that is squared away all casting options will be explored along with the continued development of the best story line.”
“the writing has been handled by the Producers and their writers at Threshold Studios in conjunction with Midway, of course.”
There you go. Nothing new… MK is still going no-where at this point because they haven’t come up with a script or a plan that has convinced anyone to put money behind this thing. And when you have a director lauding up the ‘magic’ of the original film (P.W.S. directed, let’s not forget) then you know you have a warped and confused mind in charge.
The first movie was ok, and cool for MK fans… but ‘magic’. Really? Can you not aim for your production to go a little bit higher than that mid 90’s choreographed visual frenzy?
Out of TEKKEN, STREET FIGHTER and MK, I’ve always thought this franchise had the biggest opportunity of being the one that could be transformed into the best and most marketable films. It has a richer mythology, better and more interesting castings and there’s just a kinda mystery around MORTAL KOMBAT that I would love to see re-imagined on screen.
Is mink the guy to do it? Well who knows, maybe that Seagal movie INTO THE SUN is a rare cinematic classic. I’ve never seen it.

MORTAL KOMBAT MOVIE REMAKE.
So the Mortal Kombat movie is getting a remakeso I bet it will have the great Kung Lao in the movie also it will have Liu Kang,Johnny Cage and other characters from the MK series in the film so Goro will be in the film as a CGI animated character.
There is a Tekken movie going around and Luke Goss is playing Steve Fox and I’m not happy with the project the film should be based on Tekken 2 and Kazuya Miahima should be the main character.
Threshold Studios should get the rights to adapt the games based on Darkstalkers and Devil May Cry series.
Thank you.
