Kevin Smith screened his next movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno for the MPAA today who agreed that the movie should indeed be slapped with an R-Rating, and not an NC-17 as first suggested.
It’s a massive decision for Smith because he had told press this week he would not be willing to make further cuts to the movie (we believe 12 minutes have already been lost) and would have then risked opening the movie with the kiss of death rating of NC-17, meaning no-one under the age of 17 could see the picture.
Currently the highest grossing NC-17 movie in history was Showgirls, a $20.3 million grossing flop of the mid 90’s. According to IMDB, the budget for Smith’s movie stands at $25 million… so clearly it would have taken a box office miracle for Smith to make a profit on the picture with that rating.
Starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as a broke couple who decide to film themselves in an amateur porn money to make so much needed cash, Zack and Miri Make a Porno will open in October.
