IRON MAN DVD not what you saw in theatres?!?

The IRON MAN DVD won’t quite showcase the whole original film of what you saw in theatres but don’t panic, they haven’t cut out 10 minutes or anything, or changed lines of dialogue.

It’s actually quite small but still an interesting topic to discuss. It’s in regards to this shot below which is from the theatrical release, the only place you will be able to see it as it is…

Those of you who were keeping up with the production of IRON MAN may notice the above frame is actually director Jon Favreau’s big apology to movie site IESB on the behalf of Paramount for shutting down their website for 24 hours (I can’t remember the exact time frame) because of that photo of the character from the film set which was taken by Ronnie Adams and published 100% legally by the site

If you cast your memory back to May 8th 2007, the image was our first look at the red and gold character faithfully realised on screen and also showed some shots of the final sequence from the film still then 12 months shy from release. Basically it got us all excited but Paramount pissed because they didn’t want this kind of stuff leaked that early.

They then, without asking the site to take the image down, went straight to IESB’s server and bullied them into shutting down their site. Something they had no right do to. We originally spoke about Paramount’s sneaky and foolhardy antics HERE.

After a massive support from other webmasters (including myself), IESB came back online and were rewarded with a nice set visit, interviews and basically unprecedented coverage for the movie and their added apology in the form of an in-joke, “Who is The Iron Man?” from the theatrical film was a nice gesture.

Of course we are forgetting one person in all of this. One guy was still loosing out and that was photographer Ronnie Adams, who didn’t care for the “in-joke” at all and was still so pissed at what Paramount had done to him that he has filed a lawsuit against said image being used without permission in the film, so it’s been cut from the DVD release.

The lawsuit isn’t actually settled or decided in Adams’ favour but Paramount have cut it anyway to avoid complications for recalls, the image of IRON MAN will be replaced by a generic photo, not too disimilar I should think to this one…

What a mad world we live in folks. How could such a thing, get so out of hand and carry all these twists and turns?

The IRON MAN DVD is in U.S. stores from September 30th and released in the U.K. on October 27th, despite actually being released in the same week at the cinema.

  1. We bought the single disc Iron Man yesterday and found that the convoy ambush scene had been removed and placed into the deleted scenes section. Another deleted scene, in the casino, was also in the theatrical version. That missing convoy scene destroys the whole feel of the movie for me - I am so upset! How could they do this? We thought the dvd was bad so we exchanged it for another but it does the same thing. Are the double disc and blue ray versions the same?

  2. Nevermind everyone. We had skipped ahead a bit, only wanting to watch a few scenes before bed, and totally forgot that the full ambush scene is the very first scene of the movie. We were watching the 2nd one the whole time. I feel really bad about returning that first dvd and totally embarassed! Oh well.

  3. I bought the single disc dvd at Target./ the dvd is quite different from the theatrical release. the beginning of the film was the awards ceremony in las vegas where tony stark is gambling instead of winning an award. the actual awards ceremony isn’t on the dvd, not even in the special features. the ambush scene was removed from the DVD version of the film and thrown into special features. and no exchange between nick fury and tony stark? WTF!?! I only saw the film once in theaters and I caught those differences. there must be more. I’m very angry.
