So the rumors this week are that Brad Pitt is to star in a remake of the Steve McQueen cult movie Bullitt. Of course what springs to most people’s minds instantly is the classic car chase scene which is the one thing most people remember about the flick.
Can Hollywood remake something as confident and as simply thrilling as this? It’s hard to imagine that they will be able too and the first worry that comes to mind is the glossy and heavily cut type of action scene that they will no doubt use where you are struggling to follow the action.
Steve McQueen of course is said to have done the bulk of his own stunts for this movie… there ain’t no way Brad Pitt will be given the freedom to do that in the remake if it goes ahead.
I think I probably prefer the car chase in The French Connection although that came after Bullitt and there’s little doubt that this movie influenced the other.

Love Steve McQueen - Bullitt, Great Escape & Thomas Crown - Favorites.
It’s a tie between French Connection-Bullitt. Probably would go to French Connection - 1st time saw it when first released waaaaaaaay back when, no movies like it at the time - couldn’t stay in my seat while Hackman driving like a maniac. No EFX today, no matter how fancy can compare-same with Bullitt. Cringe! - thinking of Pitt in McQueen’s Bullitt, but I am very biased — CLASSICS should be left alone, that’s why they’re CLASSICS –THEY DON’T GET ANY BETTER!
and so goes my humble opinion.
Who doesn’t love classic cars? Seems everybody does and hollywood has jumped on the bandwagon too. You see them in just about every movie and TV show now.
