This scene sums up the whole film in a nice 6 and a half minute segment. Raging Bull is about man’s paranoia and jealously. It’s a film that takes you to that dark place in Jake La Motta’s (Robert De Niro) mind, a tragic figure who is constantly fearing his own masculinity and is fuelled with rage over the thought that one day his stunning blonde wife might leave him for another man.
In this scene, La Motta’s paranoia is in full swing as he even ends up accusing his own brother of sleeping his wife. Raging Bull is a superb title for this movie and blended together with this scene, shows the precise story telling ability that Martin Scorsese is able to formulate with every scene.
How Raging Bull didn’t win an Oscar, has forever been beyond me.
