This week’s movie scene is from the Peter Jackson remake of King Kong and is hands down the most enjoyable ten minutes I had in the cinema last year. This beats any individual moment from Batman Begins, Cinderella Man, Walk the Line or any other of last year’s best.

It’s well choreographed and well rendered, but so very far from any kind of reality, something the original kong did very well. Let’s face it: Naomi Watts’ neck would have been completely shattered from that experience.
And before you say it, YES the movie is a fantasy film. I love fantasy films. But the best ones are those that feature some semblance of reality…things like actual death, gravity, spinal cord injury. Hell, even Star Wars was relatable…this King Kong was not.
