This week’s greatest movie scene is the opening to Peter Jackson’s incredible first part of his epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. I can still remember the first time I saw this film, and this opening setup had be hooked like nothing I had seen in years. This is film making of the highest quality, an opening scene so good it embarases 99% of what most directors do with their first reels of film.
Enjoy once again the first 6 and a half minutes of The Lord of the Rings.

I agree with you, Matt. Hell, I just watched it again and was transfixed. I love this opening because it is so well written, and Kate Blanchett’s narration is PERFECT. Also, I think that battle scene with Sauron’s army was the first time CGI had ever really impressed me with great, vast landscapes and action without seeming fake.
