Greatest Movie Scenes #14 – Batman Returns

batman-returns.jpgThis week’s great movie scene is from Batman Returns and is an 8 minute sequence involving Batman fighting the great circus villain henchman and Catwomen’s amazing introduction. How hot was Michelle Pfeiffer in this sequence?

I still love Burton’s vision for Batman, even more so than Christopher Nolan’s. I dunno if it’s because I grow up with the movies or if it’s because of the fantastical Gotham that he created or if it’s the amazing performances from Keaton and Danny Elfman score. It’s probably a combination of all those things.

Batman Begins is great, a superb movie and a realistic Batman Year One style that is something I never thought we would see on screen but I still find myself re-visitng Burton’s movies more.

Dunno if I would say it belongs in the category of GREATEST…it IS fun, though.

After watching this, you can really appreciate the wrondheadedness of making a “Catwoman” movie with Halle Berry. Berry might be attractive – hell, there ain’t no MIGHT about it – but she cannot touch Pfeiffer here. Really a terrific performance, one of the best of all Batman films. Her Catwoman was intelligent and lethal, but grounded by realistic motivation (unlike let’s say Thurman’s Poison Ivy, or Ah-Nuld’s Mr. Freeze).
