Tony Kaye in talks to direct Black Water Transit?

tonykaye.jpgThe thriller Black Water Transit, which is set to mark the 5th time Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson have worked together is according to Production Weekly…going through some helmer changes.

Back in November, we reported that Samuel Bayer was set to make his directorial debut with the flick but after reported “creative differences”, it now seems that Tony Kaye is set to take over.

What’s extremely interesting is that Kaye himself hasn’t directed a movie since American History X after the problems the guy had over trying to get his name taken off the movie after Edward Norton re-edited the flick to give himself more screen time.

More info from Production Weekly…

Doug Richardson, (“Live Free Or Die Hard”) scripted the adaptation of the Carsten Stroud’s novel which is a high-voltage tale of betrayal, revenge, and redemption — deeply rooted in the violent underworld of East Coast crime.

There’s more about the plot of the movie which you can read by clicking here.

It’s good to see Kaye bouncing back after his American History X difficulties. Whether or not the final product was exactly what he wanted to bring to the big screen, he should take lots of pride for the work he did on what is a magnificent film.

Jackson and Willis’ previous team up’s include Pulp Fiction, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Unbreakable which are all movies I enjoyed immensely, and here’s hoping they still have great chemistry for this new thriller.

  1. Where on earth do you get your information? Edward Norton didn’t re-edit American History X to give himself more screen time. The studio asked him to do some edits because they deemed Tony Kaye’s version unacceptable and because he took too long.

  2. I’m not sure if anyone truly knows for sure what went on with American History X, it’s just the story I keep hearing is that Norton’s edits gave him far more screen time than Tony Kaye wished.

  3. I’ve never heard that one. I’ve heard Norton in interviews say that he didn’t really want the job, and considering that even after Oscar noms, he’s been willing to take small roles at times and give Naomi Watts the better role in The Painted Veil, it’s hardly his M.O. to edit for more screen time. Recently, Kaye has come out in the press and said he regrets what happened back then. It was the studio that had problems with the original edits, as well as the fact that Kaye wanted to take a ridiculously long time to finish the film.

  4. Well, I take it back. Just saw another quote from Tony Kaye, purportedly made recently, where he trashes Norton’s performance in the film. If he’s not being misquoted, he sure does go all around the bend with his comments about this movie and his experience. He doesn’t come across like a very stable fellow.
