George A- Romero.jpgGeorge A. Romero has signed on to direct a short story written by Koji Suzuki, the japenese author of “The Ring” and “Dark Water“. The movie is described as a “horror/thriller” and will be produced on a very small budget of under $25 million. Here is the plot taken from The Hollywood Reporter..

“The story chronicles an expedition to a deserted island that turns deadly as the explorers face an unknown force”.

So something a little different from Romero on the horizon, as he tries to move away from the zombie genre that made his name. I thought that “Land of the Dead” was one zombie movie too much for Romero, one of the big problems for me was that it felt over produced because of the bigger budget than what Romero is use to.So guys, which of Romero’s zombie movies do you think is the best?

Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Day of the Dead (1985)
Land of the Dead (2005)

Romero might have good intentions but the dead movies haven’t been any good since dawn. Clunky dialogue, belief beggaringly clumsy characterisation and crappy allegory all combined to scupper day and land wasn’t much better. Here’s hoping this is better coz dawn of the dead is one of my all time favourite films. Even if it was a fluke.

Yeah I love Dawn of the Dead too, but i’m starting to like the 2004 remake more and more with each watch.

1. Dawn of the Dead (1978)
2. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
3. Day of the Dead (1985)
4. Land of the Dead (2005)

Land of the dead was pretty weak and as for the Dawn remake personaly I think it was a terrible film. Day of the dead is underatted in my opinion, but Dawn and night are the real classics.

The Night of the dead remake is actually pretty good as re-makes go.

One Trackback

  1. [...] A couple of weeks ago it was announced that George A. Romero was to write and direct the thriller Solitary Island, finally moving him away from the zombie genre. Well it seems he hasn’t given up on zombies after all, as he lined himself up to write and direct Diary of the Dead. [...]
