070311_cruise_vsml_8p_widec.jpgLions for Lambs will see the return of Tom Cruise to the big screen in November, after what will be a 16 months absence. Those folks over at Latino Review have managed to get hold of the script for the movie.

First the film’s plot…

Lions for Lambs takes place in the modern day Middle East. Somewhat depicting the current issue we have of the Iraqi war, its ties to Afghanistan, and what the US military is doing about it. It actually ponders the thought of lets say if our military groups actually realized that yes, after going to Iraq, what we can do about Afghanistan and it’s existing ties to other neighboring countries like Iran.

The story apparently takes place with the use of inter-cutting between three different stories which end up relating to each other, similar to Babel.

You can read a play by play account of the script by clicking here, but of course please be aware of heavy spoilers.

Their final thoughts on the script…

“I feel the story spent too much time jumping back & forth and kind of lost a momentum/sentiment. I was stuck with that’s it? It started slow then picked up with all the jumping back & forth scenes…

The only beef I got with Carnahan’s writing is that it could be too heady. Bascially spending too much time in the character’s heads – stuff that WE the audience can’t see on the screen. The subject matter is explosive and because of the stellar cast, watch this one get nominated for all kinds of awards come next season.

A good script, a how-fucked-up-our-government-is movie, not my cup of tea though, but let’s see how Redford executes this one come November”

They give it a B rating… calling it a solid read.

Lions for Lambs stars Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep, Michael Pena, Derek Luke and Peter Berg to be helmed by Robert Reford who also acts in the movie.
