Fox movies weren’t worth the rental anyways

20th Century Fox, giving consumers everywhere just that added extra reason to download their movies instead of paying money to view their half-assed “entertainment”.

In a March 5th article at Video Business which /film directs me towards today claims that the geniuses at Hollywood’s worst ran major studio have found a way to improve their DVD sales.

Their master plan you ask? Well they are striping down the DVDS that you rent from Blockbuster and Netflix by taking out all the special features from the movies made by their company post March 31st, leaving just bare bones editions.

Yeah, that’ll work. Just give the few customers you already have who are faithfully renting DVDs instead of using other means of retrieval a reason to stop doing so, and your onto a winner there!

The first effected movies seem to be SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, MARLEY & ME, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, NOTORIOUS and THE WRESTLER… but the new policy shouldn’t really effect us for a while.

Who needed to hear how MARLEY & ME or THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL were made and weren’t we all just going to buy THE WRESTLER on it’s first day of release? I know I am.

One of the major features that makes me shy away from Fox retail releases is that terrible “Not for rental” anti-piracy ‘advert’ they have at the beginning of all of their discs! When you spend a good few quid for the full release of a film, why should you have to put up with that crap before you watch the film you paid for? Who do these people think they are? As far as the rental goes, I see most things I want to see at the cinema first, then buy the disc that warrants a purchase. To produce 2 or 3 different discs for the same movie simply to upset the DVD rippers doesn’t make sense. The execs at Fox really can’t be THAT stupid, can they?
