DVD News: GRINDHOUSE 6 DISC THEATRICAL EXPERIENCE in Japan!
Those lucky film fanatics in Japan are getting an uber cool Tarantino box set in a few months time whilst we the unfortunate from the Western world will have to stick to the crappy individual releases. Unless we import of course.
You may remember a few years back Asia got the exclusive KILL BILL box sets with more uncut and bloody footage that was too violent for a theatrical release and now comes word of pre-orders already being taken for a 6 Disc Box Set which promises to include the original theatrical back-to-back experience of both DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR along with the fake trailers put back in.
The set will also contain the individual and extended versions of both films, along with all the extra’s that were on the DVD’s that we can purchase here in the U.S. and U.K. The set is released in March and will be available from the various Asian movie sites across the web (I recommend YesAsia) and it should go without saying that you will need a multi-region DVD to play these titles…

Awesome news. Finally we should get a chance to see the movies the way they were meant to be seen.
We all knew this would happen eventually but I think all of us are a little surprised that it is going to be this soon. No word yet on the cover art for the box set, but if it’s anything like the single disc release artwork for the flicks in Japan then I wouldn’t expect anything spectacular…
It should be noted that the English audio track is likely to be kept in with the Japanese subtitles existing from the beginning. Now on my KILL BILL dvd I was able to remove these subtitles as the film started, just as we can watch something like OLDBOY and remove the English subs if we want, so I would expect the same here… though the menu will be in Japanese.
This is likely to the be the closest to the actual GRINDHOUSE experience we are ever likely to get again so I would recommend picking it up if you are one of those that bitched about it’s DVD release in the first place.
