One of the more ridiculous attempts at cashing in on a recent successful film is the front cover image of the new Blu-Ray transfer of DAREDEVIL: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT which came out on Tuesday in the U.S.
Can you see it?
The stupid little grey box that says, “Featuring Jon Favreau, director of IRON MAN as Foggy Nelson”!. lol.
Now you remember DAREDEVIL right? Jon Favreau was best friend to Ben Affleck’s Matt Murdock, I believe he was only ever present in scenes with Ben. He was the typical support character for Ben, if you have ever seen the excellent show Curb Your Enthusiasim, he was much like Larry David’s friend Jeff.
So how can Marvel possibly justify putting his name on the front cover in front of the three leads Affleck (who is playing the title character no less but of course, he ain’t that popular no more), Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell?
Well apparently because he directed (notice the word DIRECTED) IRON MAN, that juggernaut Paramount movie this year. Which he also, even more briefly, appeared in. So because he directed IRON MAN, does that suddenly mean there will be a rush on to see him support DAREDEVIL, a movie five years old? Not likely, I will be surprised if it even convinced one person to the buy the film.
I could unstand if it were a Favreau led movie, like SWINGERS. But not as Foggy Nelson for a few scenes in DAREDEVIL. Pathetic!

I’ve already got the Directors cut on Dvd, and for the Record I dont think Fav is a very good actor so it sure wouldn’t sway me if i was into all that Blu ray shite!
That is hilarious. The people that came up with this idea are going to burn in hell. mwhahahaha
Agreed. Typical capitalism. I’m sure up until five months ago, the powers that be had all but forgotten that Favreau had indeed performed in Daredevil. I’m pretty sure they still don’t care about the lackluster performances at all; more worried about the tough sale of the Blu Ray altogether. Why not sprinkle a little Iron Man fairy dust on Daredevil to make it sell? Disgusting.
I would never buy a movie directly because of such a poor attempt at marketing it. But I already have the director’s cut of Daredevil on DVD and I’ve gotta say that the few additional scenes included DO make all the difference to the story.
A whole sub-plot opens up, surrounding murder suspect Coolio and Murdock and Nelson’s fight to clear his name - trust me it makes the movie just that bit more watchable.
I’m still not interested in Blu-Ray, but I have to say I’ve never understood the hate directed at Daredevil. It’s not that bad a movie, the director’s cut is one of those rare films where the added footage really does improve the movie. It’s certainly a lot better than, say, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Van Helsing or Elektra. I’d say it’s even better than the first Fantastic Four and Hulk movies…
I’m also not someone who pays any attention to celebrities in media, so the whole “Bennifer” thing didn’t colour my opinion of this or Jersey Girl - some people seem to hate on this just because it’s Affleck. Oh, and I did read the comic as a kid, which might have affected my opinion.
Then again, I also quite liked The Punisher (Thomas Jane version) and Spawn, so apparently my tastes aren’t good enough for some people :S
I enjoyed the DC of Daredevil too (as I’ve already said), the additional footage actually gives the movie some depth.
I also liked the Thomas Jane version of The Punisher - it was SO much better than Dolph Lundgren’s so-so version and I suspect it’ll be better than Punisher: Warzone too. I think one of the main things that put people off of that movie was the inclusion of John Travolta as the villain, but even there I think it gave the movie more credibility than it’s shabby predecessor…
