Poll time: CAPTAIN AMERICA should be…

You’ve heard me discuss who or who should not be playing CAPTAIN AMERICA in what we believe will be a Nick Cassavetes (THE NOTEBOOK, ALPHA DOG) directed adaptation of Marvel’s biggest superhero yet unrealised on the big screen in the 21st century.

Though that’s all set to change on June 4th 2010 and if Marvel are to stick to that date then it can’t be long until we finally found out who has nabbed the life changing role. If history is anything to go by, Robert Downey Jr was announced as IRON MAN on September 29th 2006, 19 months before the film opened.

So if that means anything, we should know who is playing Cap next month…

You’ve had your chance to retort and you guys have come up with some good suggestions. I’ve put all the names you have mentioned and all mine in this poll. Elections are the mood of the times right now and if we could vote for who we would like to see as Captain America… just who would win out?

Marvel's 2010 tentpole CAPTAIN AMERICA should be led by...

My first choice would be Neal McDonough or Mark Valley.
However, of the guys on this list Josh Holloway is the only one I think would fit.

I would choose Jason Lewis.

Aaron Eckhart? So are we saying that anyone involved with The Dark Knight has a golden ticket to do any superhero movie they want now?

Right now, Aaron Eckhart is Two Face. It seems to me that kind of casting would make as much sense as Robert Downey, Jr playing Iron Man and the Penguin. Or Tobey Maguire playing Spider-Man and Robin.

Matt!!!!!! Come on!

Two Face was a one off in that movie, as far as I could see he wont be coming back.
Aaron Eckhart would be perfect for this role. He’s def got that all american thing going on.

I don’t follow the comics. But I always thought he had to be young. Some of those guys look too old to me. Anyone with any knowledge on this can correct me. Also, in the Ultimate Avenger DTVs, he seemed pretty young. I’d say at a max of age 30 and part of me thinks maybe even lower.

Matt, i feel it undermines the integrity of the poll to plug Eckhart so shamelessly in the article

“He’s def got that All-American thing going on,” says the bloke from Newcastle.

Next time, we yanks get to choose your 007.

Ryan Gosling gets my vote. He’s young enough and definitely has the acting ability to pull it off. He just needs to bulk up a little bit for the role.

I like Aaron Eckhart as an actor, but he is too old to play Cap.

i understand Lencho’s point of view. But if i’m not mistaken, didnt the joker kill spawn in TDK. I mean come on. People will liine up if its right. i think eckhart showed he can do it. if he can inspire a city like gotham. then maybe he can inspire some sort of super soldiers too.

I think that out of the selections on the poll only two would fit. Aaron Eckhart is a good actor but he does not fit the role. Josh Halloway is better suited for the role, so hopefully marvel and the hollywood exec. will choose the right person for the role. But to be honest, when they said that Robert Downy Jr. would be playing iron man i was like what the heck are they thinking, and we all see how that turned out it was a great choice. And i think with Favreau set to direct the avengers movie he may have a say or at least put his two cents in.
