I don’t watch DOCTOR WHO, I’ve never been able to get into it. It’s just too silly and stupid for me, too much of the BBC crap that also includes the ROBIN HOOD show. They are making some of the worst shows I’ve seen in years right now if I’m being honest.
Though I did like David Tennant. I always thought he made a great Doctor and if I was to ever watch the show, he would be the sole reason why. I still can’t get over that he has decided to quit the show, it just seems so soon. I actually thought we would see him in a feature length cinema release somewhere down the road.
However I was caught up this week in the speculation on who would be the 11th Doctor. I heard the name Chiwetel Ejiofor late in the week, that superb actor you can’t pronounce who keeps popping up in some superb big Hollywood movies and stealing the show from his peers. He would have been the first Black DOCTOR WHO and I thought it was definitely going to be him, I thought he could have brought something new and exciting to the role.
But no, colour me shocked. The BBC have announced it’s going to be 26 year old Matt Smith (his credits are wafer thin), the youngest DOCTOR WHO of all time. Smith will take on the role after four Tennant feature specials, claiming the role for himself in October 2010. But the backlash has already begun on most fan sites who were expecting a “name”.
DOCTOR WHO?
DOCTOR WHO executive producer Steve Moffat…
“The way he said the lines, the way he looked, his hair. Everything was spot on,”
Seems a very odd choice. He doesn’t carry the leading man aura, he seems very youthful and actually a little odd looking. It looks like he just walked off the set of the TWILIGHT series.
Thoughts DOCTOR WHO fans?

Well, I am a fan of the old version of the show. Like most Americans, I fell in love with the brilliant Tom Baker and his incarnation of the Doctor. Over the years, I went back and examined quite a bit of the older shows, up to the point where Sylvester McCoy’s reign ended.
And then the BBC went and fucked the show up.
Rather than continue the show as a fairly complex and narratively-intriguing science fiction show, the Beeb decided to try and emulate American bullshit science fiction shows. So rather than a show which focused on drama and scares, DOCTOR WHO devolved into a soap opera. And the music is ATROCIOUS, playing continuously over everything. And for some reason they seem to think that fans want CGI effects all over the place … and very cheesy effects at that.
Tennant seemed like a pretty good Doctor, even though the stories around him were banal and childish. This guy seems intelligent – and like you said, young – but the show itself needs to improve dramatically.

Erm, really? Are you so stuck for content for this site that you’re now complaining about casting choices for shows you don’t even watch? How do you know how good a fit Smith will be for the role if you haven’t seen how it’s being handled now?
Also, why does the actor playing Doctor Who have to be a name or recognisable actor? I hadn’t seen David Tennant playing anything before he joined the show (he turned out to be near-perfect IMHO), and most of the other doctors had no previous experience with similar characters or sci-fi as a whole. I agree that Ejiofor would have been an inspired choice but I’ll reserve judgement on Smith until I’ve seen the final product.
I agree with Ray that I wish the show hadn’t gone the soap-opera route (from the beginning – did Rose’s Mum and boyfriend really have to be recurring characters?). But, it’s still better than the Sylvester McCoy years (want to see where the Beeb fucked the show up – there it is. Why do you think it took a 16 year break?), and anyone over the age of 21 hasn’t been in the show’s official target audience for some time.
Hopefully the show will improve now that Russell T Davies’ moronic writing is going to be replaced, and the new actor will give the show a chance to take the show in a new direction.
I think this guy will be superb as the Doctor. I’m so glad it’s not another pretty boy! this guy looks alien to me.(He looks slightly “Emo” for my likens and I hope they dont go that route.)
I think the show will move into an new era when Davies has left and good riddence to all of his crap writing as well.
i for one am looking forward to this new Era of Dr Who with Moffat at the helm.
why have they chosen a wierd looking man, sorry boy to be the 11th doctor? I got hooked on this programme and bought all dvd series, I am totally gutted I reckon he will wreck what was a fantastic programme have the bbc lost the plot?????
